Home remedy/self-care suggestions for tension headaches

For the past five days I’ve been suffering really badly from this self induced tension headache. Which initially started from trying to get through to the GP for other reasons. But I’ve been trying all my usual methods: applying a cold compress, drinking Ginger tea, taking a bath, And have been avoiding screens and artificial light (for the most part).

Since we’ve been in lockdown it hasn’t been too bad, as I don’t have to work. But I still need to make it to university tomorrow and on Thursday, and I really need to work out a way to make it through this pain otherwise I won’t be able to concentrate.

I try to avoid taking painkillers, as results I do get from them a short lived, particularly with paracetamol and Co-codamol, and I do take codeine on occasion for other pains. But I really don’t want to take anything so if you have any home solutions please let me know.

Hi strenuous exercise is what I do, normally I would do a class at the gym but since lockdown you'd have to more creative. Need to get the heart rate up and all your muscles jiggled about. I have chronic migraines and fibro so I am aware of how unpleasant the prospect of strenuous exercise is, usually feel awful while I do it but considerably better afterwards.

I am using headache balms from a couple companies online , one I swear by , they are based in Somerset and their products are amazing . I carry a jar with me in my handbag if I’m out , herbs on the hill, it goes cool when you put it on your temples, but really a god send for me as cannot use a lot of over the counter products xx

Thanks will look into it

Hi Trexy

White Tiger Balm on the temples in middle of forehead and gentle massage at back of neck working up to scalp. Massage the centre of the face top of head down and around eyes in gentle circular movements.
