anyone heard of "Hotspots"???
Thanks Christine, x
yes but i call them burning spots coz thats how it feels like a certain area is burning ,not nice .
I'm actually not sure.
Your doctor could be referring to tender points, but these would normally only hurt when actually pressed.
Or he could be referring to myofascial trigger points, which can cause burning, stabbing or shooting pain, referred pain and other symptoms, muscle weakness, pins-and-needles, etc.
Or he could've personally decided this was a good phrase to call the areas of pain that jump around with Fibro.
Or he could've got the wrong end of the stick about something.
yes i have them they feel like pressing a bruise when you touch them and on different days different spots hurt more than others !
Im so glad Im not alone, as i do feel isolated n the doc only prescribes me paracetamol, I feel as if iv been left to "get on with it"
I find that the 18 tender points described are a bit limiting. I could probably count around 3 times that and more........it can feel pretty horrible, like having constant flu (tender body).
The 18 tender points were specific spots chosen for research that were chosen because they were a good way of illustrating the widespread hyperalgesia (hypersensitivity to pain) that is characteristic of Fibro. With Fibro, you should have hyperalgesia all over, but as these tender points are more sensitive in most people, it is easier to check for hyperalgesia on them.
Sorry I had to say this, Immature moment...."what's a hotspot not, a good spot"!!!
I have the same problem, sometimes even my skin aches! I get lumps forming under my skin and they come up in different areas every day, currently my elbow and left shoulder are the worst. My fingers have been particularly painful this week.
