Does anyone suffer with unexplained bruising? It’s been happening for months now but only noticing as they are getting worse. I have heard that iron deficiency can cause bruising and I do have Iron deficiency aneamia. Just wondered if anyone else has the same?

Hi there, I think you just answered your own question. I do know some health issues can cause bruising but you would need to see your GP to be blood tested for unexplained bruising.
Saying that my legs get covered in bruising all year long and my blood is fine.
May I suggest if your worried about the bruising have a word with your doctor xx
Hi ya, are you not taking medication for your anemia? Yes all bruises tend to be painful if touched. And I know what you mean I have some the size of a golf ball at times.
Glad your having a word with your GP please let us know how you get on. I hope your day will be a good one 🤗
Yes I’m on ferrous fumarate 210mg x3 a day. Very slowly going up though. Iron levels tend to be between 12 and 300 the GP said to me and mine is at 18.
He did ask whether it ran in the family and my mum bruises terribly. Sometimes her legs are covered and also for no explanation. He said that could be a reason but just to be sure he’s told me to book a blood test to check clotting levels. He said if they come back ok then he will be happy and it must just be the way I am!
Hello jjsmum. I also get a lot of bruising. I never know how I've got them, they just appear. I've not had a blood test for this for many years, but nothing slowed up then, so I just accept it now.
They’ve just tested my B12, iron and folate. The only thing I am deficient in is iron. A few months ago it was folate as well but managed to up my levels with folic acid xxx
I don't intend to worry you with my response but please do not ignore it get it checked until the cause of it known because a friend of mine had this bruising and in the end it turned out to be blood related to cancer.
I used to get unexplained bruising when I was taking half tablet aspirin so after the tests I know I am allergic to the aspirin because it has blood thinning effect leading to bruising with the smallest move.
Hi I have Fibro and at my last Rhumatology appointment I mentioned the unexplained bruises mainly on my legs and that I have noticed that sometimes when the bruise fades it leaves a slight discolouration to the skin. I was told that it was because iron is leaking from the bruise into surrounding tissue and it can take years for skin to get back to normal.
I suspect my iron levels may be low so am going to get them checked.
My rheumatologist wasn’t unduly concerned seems to just be another symptom that us Fibro sufferers mention to him!
Thanks for your reply. My mum also has FMS and she has bruising all over her legs too so it could possibly be one of the symptoms. My rhuemo appointment isn’t until November but I’m looking forward to some answers x
