I've just received my pip a few months ago and I've got higher rate which is excellent news they did say that I can go for a blue badge but I'm frightened of being judged and looked at because people look at me and say there's absolutely nothing wrong with me whatsoever and that's why I don't want to apply for anything

I know you can apply for a blue badge,

and probably a few other things

But I am to frightened as I don't want to be judged and pointed it and nasty people leaving notes on car windows as I've heard a lot about ☹️😢😢😢😢

Definitely apply for it. Mine is a life saver with having 3 hour's parking, I can't walk far without having a rest so it helps me big time. I have a badge in my back window saying. I've got fibromyalgia. Not all disability are the same. Not one person has said anything to me.

You must apply for anything that will help you, this is your health and wellbeing and no business of anyone else, go for it x

Thanks everyone for your replies,😊 I'll sit down and discuss it with my husband later .

Thanks again x

You can get a sticker for your car which says " Not all disabilities are visible"

With higher rate pip you are automatically entitled to blue badge and on days when you are struggling you will find it a great help being able to park nearer to the shops, hospitals etc.

On better days if you feel able then you can use an ordinary parking space and leave the bb space for someone who is having a worse day but do use it when you need to.

Best wishes

Ellie

No your not automatically entitled to a blue badge only if you get 8 points + for walking and only 10 points for planning a journey, my brother has 12 points for planning a journey and 4 points for walking and wasn’t entitled, same goes for 2 of my aunts, where in my case I have 10 points for walking and 10 points for planning a journey

Thank you for putting me right rtd1 and my apologies for my mistake. I assumed it was the same rule as dla mobility.

Who knows what afflictions the gossips and the finger pointers might come across themselves one day? Go ahead and apply for whatever you're entitled to and let them say what they like! When you get it make the most of it, use it all the time👍

I've got the sticker referred to in the back of my car and it has stopped people commenting. Don't worry about what people say - if they say you don't look disabled just reply "and you don't look stupid - looks can be deceiving" I applied for a blue badge years ago and it has given me so much freedom. I applied on-line had an initial assessment but renewals have been done with just the on-line application and uploading my hospital reports/letters. Good luck and enjoy the freedom the blue badge brings.

Please apply for your blue badge you will find it is so useful, and as for people looking at you wondering what your disability is then let them wonder, if your ever asked, you don't look disabled reply as I have done you don't look ignorant but you are, as a badge holder with MS using a mobility scooter at home and a boot one while out in the car I have never had any problems but I have myself wondered what is the disability of certain people walking normally no aids ect.

Hi Pinkvelvet

Well done on receiving your PIP.

If your needs, require a blue badge, and the authorities says, you can apply for one, then submit your application. Don't be deterred.

Some people, are always quick to judge, and will always judge, and continue to judge. However, let that be their problem, and not yours.

You are not alone.

Best wishes.

Yeah you do get people looking funny & I actually have people asking if I’ve got a badge before I’ve even had time to put it up, I was driving at 16 as I had enhanced mobility and a Motability car, I pulled up in the town before and was reverse parking in a bay and when I stopped a man shouted ‘ shame your driving ain’t disabled ain’t it ‘ I just laughed and ignore every one of them, now I haven’t been questioned. How you got to look at it is YOU need that badge your entitled to it, best believe me if you wasn’t PIP would never give the points. So yes do get a blue badge because it’s a god send a absolute god send and helped me out a great deal. I just renewed my badge few weeks ago and it took 8 days!

You are entitled to it, and really it's nobody else's business! Go for it, then even if you are with a friend you can use it.

You never know when it will be useful.

Cheers, Midori

Apply for it, you can always choose not to use it when your feeling good or can find a standard space near where you want to be.

We have a window sticker that says not all disabilities are visible and the sunflower for invisible disabilities.

Hi, I was like you where I was worried too about getting a blue badge but it has been a life saver for me. I am unable to ealk far even with walking sticks and it is there to help you. Go and get one, there are some nice car window stickers you can buy too that say things like not all disabilities are visable. You are entitled to one so go for it x

After applying for a blue badge for my late mum I know that they don’t give then out easily, apply for one today, you are entitled to one and it will make your life easier. 🙂

There are lots of reasons such as cancer, heart problems etc that can't be seen so don't worry about other people. They are often the ones who park there for 10 min as just nipping in. No one has right to question you except traffic wardens.

I use my only when really need to even though walk with stick.

hiya, it does happen, i've had it many times, in car parks i had a lady and her mum approach me as we was getting out saying that your not F+++ing disabled - very aggressive, shouting at me and allsorts - it's wrong, you get funny looks from others that park in them too, i have had comments when i've pulled up and then i have got my badge out and the looks are unreal, but it DOES make life so much easier and i've learnt that it happens out of jealousy i think and no disrespect meant to anyone but older people seem to react the worse, although most of them walk into the shop with not too much trouble, the wheelchair users are the ones that are lovely and seem to have no issue at all, apply it really does make a difference - ignore the rude ones xxx

Just go to your council office and take your award letter with you and id and apply for it as you have the high award for mobility you don't need to go for interview. Good luck

Apply for your blue badges, they're a bonus and allow access to many places you need to get to easily. Also, I'd recommend that you buy the double wallet to keep the cards in. My surgery has double yellow lines outside, forbidden parking but with my badges, I can park there. I also carry a walking stick with me, as I find times when I really feel I need its assistance - a collapsible. All the best for your happier future.

Hi there. I understand your anxieties, my brother has epilepsy and there have been times when he and his wife (who drives, obvs) have been challenged. I think the ‘invisible disability’ note is helpful however I find it wrong to have to feel that anyone who doesn’t know you can demand an explanation - they have no right to ask and you have no obligation to respond. Some people are plain rude and insensitive and, frankly, the opinions of those who mean nothing to you, mean nothing.

Apply straight away. You won't regret it, I promise you. Ignore the idiots who can't see beyond the end o f their judgemental, nasty noses. They are in the minority and most people that I have met have been so helpful and considerate. I have got my mobility car and my badge and it has given me freedom to go out where and when I want. Never let anyone's stupidity stop you getting what you need. Life is too short so get out and enjoy it as much as you can. Big hugs to give you confidence xxxx

Hi, I got myself a Blue Badge a while ago and it's been an absolute godsend. What I've also done is got a couple of stickers for my car, which say something about not all disabilities being visible. If other people judge, let them. It just shows how narrow minded they are and that clearly they're the ones that need to be sympathised due to their ignorance. Stay safe 😊 x

You go girl! Worry not about those that see no pain, Struggle , anxiety etc. Its not about them! And what they not got! It's about what makes your life easier , bearable, worth living, comfortable, hopeful, better, enjoyable and a better quality of life than the one you've been subjecting yourself too. When I'm confronted , I always say I'd swap my life in an instant for yours , I dont wear my being less abled badge for the likes of anyone... stop being prejudice against others. Less fortunate than yourself, ok it puts me in my place too. But it does wonders for the other person... I feel for you. Time to enjoy your life! Don't forget its your life not there's... apply and enjoy. It's your right!!!! You either qualify or not.. kindest regards
