Hi, you should apply to your local council. But please be aware having standard rate does not automatically get you a blue badge. You are only automatically entitled to a badge if your on high rate disability. This does not mean you won't get one. But you may have to have a f2f consultation. I hope this help 😊

Rules on Blue Badges changed in August 2019. Look under Department for Transport Guidance; Who can get a Blue Badge? All the rules & scenarios are clearly explained there.

Hi Shelling ,

If you live in England you do not get it automatically unless you have PIP with higher rate mobility. You can still apply for one, but they have tightened up the application process.

You apply to your local council, or do it on-line. Go to Gov.co.uk and it will tell you how to do it.

My Blue Badge was up for renewal on March 2020, and I was quite surprised at all the evidence of disability that you have to enclose with your application now, and also to expect a face-to-face with Occupational Therapist. I had been awarded the badge previously in the past 6 yrs and never had to provide so much evidence. I do have other health issues apart from Fibro.

I did get it renewed, and they didn’t ask me to come for a face to face.

When you apply give them all the evidence they ask for, and also anything extra that would support your claim.

This is just another way that it is making it difficult for people to get the support they need.

Good luck.

GP. 😊😊

Hi Shelling ,

It doesn’t go by your Medical Conditions, but on your mobility.

Don’t be put off from applying. You can do this on-line, or get forms from your local council. Get help if need be to fill the forms in.

Good luck.

GP. 😊😊

Hi Hidden ,

in England you only get it automatically if you have higher rate mobility, and a few other conditions which apply (blind, war wounded).

In Scotland the rules are different.

Cheers.

H Ajay, if you go to gov.uk and how to apply for blue badge in England it gives you all the details.

Honestly they have tightened up the process so much in the past year.

You’re maybe right. All I know is that when I applied last month to renew my blue badge again, this is what I had to do.

Here is a link. gov.uk

They also have different forms for Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland.

Hi again Hidden ,

Maybe this might shed some light on it. It is the latest Automatically receive blue badge criteria dated Aug 2019 from Gov.uk.

People who automatically get a Blue Badge

You automatically qualify for a Blue Badge if you are over 2 years old and at least one of the following applies:

you receive the higher rate of the mobility component of the Disability Living Allowance (DLA)

you receive a Personal Independence Payment (PIP) because you can’t walk more than 50 metres (a score of 8 points or more under the ‘moving around’ activity of the mobility component)

you are registered blind (severely sight impaired)

you receive a War Pensioner’s Mobility Supplement

you have received a lump sum benefit within tariff levels 1-8 of the Armed Forces and Reserve Forces (Compensation) Scheme and have been certified as having a permanent and substantial disability which causes inability to walk or very considerable difficulty in walking

you receive the mobility component of PIP and have obtained 10 points specifically for descriptor E under the ‘planning and following journeys’ activity, on the grounds that you are unable to undertake any journey because it would cause you overwhelming psychological distress

If you have any score other than 10 points under descriptor E, in the ‘planning and following journeys’ activity of PIP you may still be eligible for a Blue Badge, but you do not automatically qualify. This includes if you have a higher score of 12. You will have to provide evidence to demonstrate your eligibility which will be assessed as part of your application.

Scotland

In Scotland you are also automatically eligible if at least one of the following applies:

you scored 12 points in the ‘planning and following journeys’ part of your mobility assessment for PIP

you previously received the higher rate of the mobility component for DLA indefinitely

you have had a mandatory reconsideration for PIP accepted by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) - you are eligible for a 1 year badge.

Hope this helps.

I didn’t qualify automatically, but they wanted so much more evidence of disability that they hadn’t asked for before when I renewed.

I applied on-line & uploaded everything that I thought would support my application. If you apply online, they have notes to read telling you what they require, read them carefully before you fill in the form. Also, they allow for you to save & go back to form.

Hope this helps Shelling .

Thank you for all the help x

Another thing I noticed Ajay was when I reapplied for my blue badge they did not give me it for 3 years like they used so it was only till the end date of my PIP award

No they are obviously going by length of PIP award now..

I didn't speak to anyone it was all online

Thank you
