Two days ago I got a flu shot because I have two young children and am frequently around my elderly grandparents. Most years I remember it being a non issue but this year I feel really knocked out. I'm run down, tired and achey and even a little nauseated today. I even felt cold this afternoon and laid down to nap by noon. Is this normal for flu shots sometimes or is the flu shot provoking hashimotos and/or fibromyalgia? I take 10 mg amitriptyline for the fibro and armour/Synthroid combo for the hashi. Thanks!

Flu shot effects
Most years I have problems with the flu shot. This year not a problem. I think it must be to do with the strain of virus they put in the vaccine.
Morning. I had a couple of achy days, sore arm, but was told this was quite normal after, and like badbessie has said it can be down to the strain of the virus they put in, last year no effect whatsoever. If your still not feeling very well after a couple of days or just in general worried phone your surgery . You sound like you need some well deserved rest at the weekend, is there anybody that could have the children for a few hours for you, I know it’s hard with a young family as my daughter has mild Fibro and endometriosis and a part time job , she quite often ends up in bed at weekends and Hubbie or any of the 2 sets of grandparents (us ) help out when we can , take care of yourself xx
Please be aware that ALL flu vaccines are not live vaccine, a bit like immunisation of kids for measles It protects you from the virus should you come in contact with the disease...Flu is a killer like measles (and we have a world epidemic of measles killing thousands if you listen to todYs news) SOME flu vaccines have egg content speak to your g.p, if you have egg allergy and they will look at the strain versus your risk....I hope that will help many who shy off vaccines have s good weekend I am taking Mr Arkwright and Granville for their vaccine today....NURSE Gladys,xx
Vaccines are made in batches. Vaccine effect on a person is a variable quantity. The majority of the time there are no problematic side effects. There are occasions where there is a side effect. Some side effects can be problematic. Some side effects are not so problematic. You cannot predict what a side effect will be.
I have met people who in a particular year were badly effected by a flue vaccine while in other years they were not.

This may answer some questions you have.
I had the Flu jab on Tuesday as now Diabetic & rare autoimmune condition with no problems but know of people who have verbalised feeling worn out especially if they have ME or CFS as some call it (however some think this is 2 separate conditions)
Hope you feel better soon x
Quite possible it is the shot. Each year the scientists cook up a vaccine from the most common strains encountered over the last year, plus a few that may be on the rise. It's possible it has tipped you into a flare.
The first time I had a flu shot was in the 70s, while I was nursing. I was quite ill after it. Since then I've had no reactions at all.
I recommend it .
