Cramp

Hi I don’t come on here often but like to read peoples comments. I’m really suffering at the moment, I think it’s the heat. But my worse pain is leg cramps. Is this a fibro symptom? I have had bouts of it before but never this bad. It was the whole left leg last night. Couldn’t straighten it or weight bear for at least 20 minutes. The pain had me in tears. I have a low salt diet as I have Ménière’s disease but increasing my salt hasn’t helped. Any ideas please???

No other symptoms, looked on NHS help site and not taking any medications that can cause it. Not a drinker so not liver disease. At a loss to what is causing it other than the heat/weather.

Hi, I have fibromyalgia as well as numerous other ailments and I suffer terribly with cramp in my feet and legs. I don’t know if it is related to the fibromyalgia or not, but bloody hell it is painful. I had to stop swimming as I have had to be dragged out because of my legs cramping! People have told me to drink tonic water as there is quinine in it and that is meant to help. However, I tried it but the cramps are still the same. I feel your pain and sympathies with you.

Thank you for your reply. It is so so painful. Wednesday evening my whole leg went into a cramp - I couldn’t weight bear, straighten it or anything it went on for nearly 30 minutes and reduced me to tears. I had over done the walking that day and that’s all I can think it was. I drink tonic water and that hasn’t helped, I’m going to try a magnesium oil spray and see if that helps. Thank you again.

We get really bad cramps we use Magnesium oil and rub it into cramping muscles or soak in bath 🛀 with Epsom salt in it.

Good luck 😉

Thank you for your reply Bobby3. I will try the magnesium oil. Can’t soak in a bath lol, only have a wet room as not very mobile.

Sleep with a slice of soap tucked in your PJ's or try a magnet under your pillow. Discuss with GP your salt intake you may be deficient or imbalanced. It has been hot lately.

Thank you for your reply. Have tried the soap but not a magnet. It was better last night, seems to be the more walking I do the worse it is.

I have suffered with severe foot and leg cramps for 30 years and everything my doctor suggested or prescribed was no use. I can be up for half the night in agony sometimes. Someone recently recommended Magnesium 375mg capsules from Home Bargains (30 for 99p in the vitamins department). If you are in the UK I would look into/speak to your doctor about trying them - 2 months since starting them and I have not had cramp once. She said she takes 2 before bed, I am only taking 1 and unless it is coincidence, it is certainly working.

Thank you. I am certainly going to give Magnesium tablets a go and the magnesium spray. I’m glad your getting some relief and hope it continues. It is incredibly painful.

Sorry you’re going thru this. I have Fibro and often have leg cramps. Ask your doc about muscle relaxers. In the meantime, taking potassium and vitamin a really helps! But you won’t notice improvement right away, I noticed it after taking them every day for 4 days. Hope this helps!

P.s. if that’s your only symptom I wouldn’t say it’s Fibro.

Thank you for your reply. No it’s not my only symptom - I wish it was lol. It’s a fairly new symptom, only started about a year ago and getting worse. I have had fibro for 6+ years. I will give the potassium and Vit A a try thank you.
