Hi all, I am new to this forum and was very pleased with the support this community gives to one another. As for I am sure my story will be nothing new to many here, just to me!! I am 50 years of age and was medically retired last October from a job I loved (school matron). This was following over 2 years of spinal problems and after seeing many gps, taken many different pain killers, referals to physios, mri scans, X rays, ct scans, and finally a spinal consultant I was told I had spinal stenosis and ended up having 3 ops, decompression surgery, a spinal cyst washout, and finally a spinal fusion with a bone graft! All to the good I thought but then all the pains started everywhere. Referals were made to a neurologist and a rheumatologist who both agreed on fibromyalgia, withe the neuro telling me a whole list of other things including chronic pain and fatigue syndromes, tinnitus, migraines etc etc. These conditions can't be seen of course and so there are people who have said that it is all in the head, to which I answer 'absolutely '! Mind you I then go on to point out that should I kick them in the shins their pain would also be all in their head as that is where all pain is processed. Neither is all in the mind either! We cannot help that our brains are functioning on high alert, with certain parts switched on full blast. None of us asked for this and I doubt that any of us enjoy our days spent in bed in pain and exhausted due to having the audacity to go out the previous day! Okay so this intro ended up as a bit of a rant but in my defence I feel rubbish today as I tried to have a normal weekend! Sorry
