PIP Tribunal

I can't quite believe that I am writing this .. Today I went to court for my PIP appeal and I won ! From being given zero points in the initial assessment the panel decided I have over 8 points and I got the standard award for daily living . Any one know how long it takes for the award to come through ?

I am so pleased for you. Reading other people's experiences, I gather appealing against these assessment decisions can be difficult and stressful so good on you for seeing it through and getting the result you deserve. Your success will hopefully encourage others who are in a similar situation so thanks for sharing. x

It is stressful and seems to take ages . I will say the panel did all they could to make me relax , though I had never been more nervous in my life. It was my first ever experience with a court in any way shape or form. All those battling on - don't give up !

It's almost as if it's made hard and long-winded on purpose in order to put people off....Must be such a relief for you now though and fingers crossed you won't have to wait too long for your money. I have never applied for PIP so have no idea how long it takes them to pay it out but hopefully some other members will be able to give you an idea. x

I think it is done on purpose. If people give up they don't have to pay....

So pleased for you. The timescale seems to vary from region to region according to how many cases they have to deal with. Hope yours comes through soon.x

Pleased for you. It's so wrong how many people have to appeal, it must surely be costing more than genuinely assessing and awarding people what they are due in the first place. X

Hi, mine can through in about 3 weeks , the backdated money went into my bank behore I even had the letter to say I’d been awarded it ! It was backdated to when I first applied, which was nice I’d ring if not heard in three weeks x

Congratulations and well done for seeing it through. Hopefully will encourage others to appeal as so many people are initially refused . I also got backdated money in account before I got a letter so hope you don't have to wait long.

Well done, please for future reference for when I fill form etc, how do you appeal and do you have to pay your own costs to go to court? I don’t know how that works to be honest and would appreciate your insight

Hi Millie2010, it's not a court it's a tribunal therefore, no costs, with a panel of 3, a judge, a disability expert and a doctor, they are a completely independent body from the DWP, hope that's helpful, good luck 😊

Anita54 profile image

Oh and before you can appeal when you get a less than you think you should get result, you have to firstly ask the DWP for a mandatory reconsideration, if they don't change their decision you can appeal, I would strongly advise for both, for you to get help from your local CAB, as they have specialists to help 😊

Thank you , when I have seen this before, I imagined, it to be in a court room in some place miles away from home, and court fees to pay , I have a further understanding now

Your welcome, they're always local and even in hotel conference rooms, although still daunting 😱

Mine was in a small room of the local county court which was some what terrifying. The panel were very calm and the clerk was kind and reassuring . I was still shaking through most of it ! It's so very frustrating that we have to do this , but don't give up . I got help from the CAB with my paperwork .
