I was wondering how many fibromyalgia sufferers also have thyroid issues especially underactive thyroid. I’m quite new on here so excuse me if it has been answered before. I also suffer with arthritis and I have early onset osteoporosis. From what I’ve seen so far it looks like there is a link

I have auto-immune hypothyroidism (I have high TPO antibodies in my blood). There may be a link between fibro and hypothyroidism, but in my case I'd had fibro for many years - and been tested for thyroid issues a number of times - before I eventually became hypothyroid. With me hypothyroidism occurred at menopause and with the onset of another auto-immune disease. It's unfortunately not uncommon to have not just one, but several auto-immune diseases at the same time. I'm not aware of any scientifically proved connection between fibro and hypothyroidism, but it would be very interesting if anyone knows of any studies showing that there is.
Sorry, I didn't mean to worry you - It's common, but by no means certain that you will get other auto-immune diseases if you already have one. Perhaps your hypothyroidism isn't auto-immune anyway - Has your blood been checked for the thyroid antibodies that can cause hypothyroidism?
Yes I’ve had it for over 25 years, I believe it began after I had my daughter. I have regular blood tests to make sure I’m on the correct amount of thyroxine 🙂
Ah, okay, I see. Just another thought - You mentioned that you have early onset osteoporosis - Presumably in connection with this they have checked your vit D levels (as low levels can give various symptoms to include fatigue).
You're welcome, Lynn...But I'm sorry to hear that things are bad atm. Perhaps post up with what's happening; the members of this forum do their best to help. x
I too have an underactive thyroid, and osteoarthritis as well as sleep apnoea but the last is probably nothing to do with fibromyalgia, in fact I don't know if any of them are inter related. Perhaps we are just unlucky.
I'm sorry you are having a bad time at the moment. I hope you soon start to pick up.
