Fibros are often seen by drs as Drug Seeking. They seem not to understand (or even believe) our invisible pain. Bad luck to have misused drugs in the past as that will be the first thing they see. Drs can be very mean with drugs even when fibros are diagnosed and believed. On the other hand, many fibros now prefer to be drug free and use alternative methods, relaxation, meditation, hydrotherapy, supplements etc. There is no cure for fibro, just managing it. Drugs, tend to work, if they work at all for only a limited time before the body adapts and needs more and then other drugs too.

Regardless of your history, you should be able to see a gp who will listen and try to help. They should check you over to see if there is something driving your pain. We get to Fibro, by ruling out every other possibility and having certain telltale symptoms. I wish you luck getting diagnosed and helped.

Welcome to the FMAUK Community STEVENSI ! :)

Sorry to hear you are experiencing such pain and you are finding your GP dismissive of your symptoms. Many of us have faced this issue as some Drs seem to believe it is either psychosomatic, a wastebasket diagnosis and others correctly recognise it is a physical illness. To quote a popular film 'You never know what your gonna get' I can truly empathise with you as living with the chronic pain is not easy without the added worries of trying to get your GP to understand, so you can get a diagnosis and help.

It sounds in your post that you can see the stumbling block might be your past history and to be honest s/he may be trying to limit an addictive prescribed drugs as any healthcare professional would I suppose. However, as you are experiencing pain rather than dismissing you automatically maybe s/he should consider doing some investigations. Have you had any tests?

Please can I provide you with the FMAUK website which has a wealth of information about Fibromyalgia which may be of help to you

fmauk.org

As a newbie, please can I mention that members prefer to answer posts that are locked to this community only. If you wish to do this, here's a link that explains how to do it;

Hi there....ex-drug user or not,your doctor should not be discriminating. If you're not happy with that particular doctor,then ask to see another or change practices. Doctors spend years going thr' a range of prognoses,then put you on more drugs which you probably don't need,or have so many side effects from. So I wouldnt worry about being an ex user. We are all Guinea pigs!!!! & inadvertently supporting 'Big Farmer'. I've just switched to trying CBD oil. The problems in your feet could be Plantar Fasciitis. But you should try to get an apt with the podiatry team. Also taking drugs in the past,could have caused you to develope a weak immune system,but that too,could have been caused by all the pollutants in our atmosphere,from the water we drink,to insufficient nutrients in the food we eat due to the over use of pesticides. Hence more drugs.

When my son was born 26 years ago,I couldn't clench my fists. I was a technical illustrator & couldnt hold a pen or play guitar.. A recent study has revealed that there may be a link between FM & blood vessels in the hands, although I know it was in my feet as well due to other foot injuries I have.

Physical & mental shock & trauma to your body & mind can be contributing factors to. Try also to look at you diet as it is a known fact that processed foods,sugary drinks etc could de detrimental.

Persevere with your research as we all have a range of underlying other problems & dis-eases.

Peace
