Be very careful with pain clinic .I was there last week and was taken straight of tramadol 100mg twice for 10years I was on these .was left with terrible withdraw symptoms .given more meds than I could cope with .so my advice would be ask how u will be if taken of gabapentin he wanted me to up gabapentin 600mg 3times a day can't stomach them any more .hope u get sorted Amy x
Oh my !!! , I’ve been on all the usual meds , also got script today for tramadol but dunno if I want to take them , but then again I will try anything to get rid of this pain I think I must be in a flare , 🤷♀️ so they just stop meds if they see fit ?
Yes I was left very I'll from Friday sick dihorea severe stomach cramps just up out of bed today. So be very weiry if in doubt ask .I have been left high and dry had to phone rheaumy nurse told me forget new meds go straight back on tramadol it needs to be withdrawn slowly not cold turkey c my rheaumtoglist next Tues c what he says good luck keep us posted amyx
Hi, Be careful with Tramadol, it's an opiate and should only be used as a temporary measure. All painkillers have side effects, even if you don't realise it, which compound the pain problems: bleeding in joints which cause fibrin to encase the joint and prevent mobility.
Have you given an Epsom Salt bath soak a try? Half a cup in the bath or just a bowl to soak your feet. Sometimes the old wives remedies are the best. Try magnesium and turmeric and chew walnuts and Brazil nuts to supplement your own body's elements. Give yourself some TLC and plenty of 'me' time to relax and sooth. J xx
I will do .don't get me wrong I find tramadol a good pain relief .but to stop them without any support it causes all sorts of side effects .hope u get on better thanks amy
Theyll just put you on the rubbish meds
Pregabalin duloxetine
Then it will just be the stuff about pacing and all the nonsense you can get off the internet.
If you're special you get a place on a pain management program. Basically nothing about relieving your pain just about writing lists and managing pain again you can get this off the internet instead of traipsing all the way to hospital for 4 hours every weak with another bunch of miserable old gits 😁
Take it you’ve tried the pain clinic how was your experience?
Yes actually ive been to three different NHS pain clinics. For different conditions but essentially the approach is exactly the same.
Firstly they are reluctant to give you any medication at all so you firstly have a fight before you even get to the amitriptyline and the gabapentin and all that pseudo medication nonsense.
Then you have a bigger fight trying to get injections (which everybody wants to try ) the waiting list for those is a bit of a lottery depending where you live but and one location I waited 3 months in another location I waited 18 months needless to say neither epidural or Trigger Point steroid injections made any difference to my pain.
In the end I got more information from the websites and groups like this and then going back to my GP and basically educating him and the pain clinic and demanding stuff. Make sure you see a pain doctor at consultant level and not fobbed iff by some nurse or registrar level.
The last pain clinic promised me injections, counselling, but never delivered each time i went back the same promises but no action.
I know that some pain clinics are better than others I can't generalize too much so it's worth a try to see how it goes.
Just be aware there main emphasis is not to reduce your pain but to MANAGE it.
That can mean anything from decent medication to shut up and live with it.
I have been on all the usual meds for fibro nothing is helping so it’ll be interesting to c what they can offer , thanks for the info al keep it in mind 👍
What a shame that you are putting over such a negative opinion of pain clinics Fred. Not everyone feels like you do and many have gained a lot of help from them.
Ultimately there are no effective long term pain killers. In fact no medication can 'kill' pain.
There are physical interventions that can help short term but it is down to the individual to manage their own pain hard though it may be.
I have medication that helps my pain to an extent. However the techniques that I have learned from the pain clinic are the ones that get me through the days. Pacing is an essential part of pain management, not by any means nonsense. The techniques cannot relieve pain. Nothing can really do that but they can help you deal with the reality of chronic pain so that life is bearable.

Youre entitled to youre opinion
Im entitled to mine
I'm nearly presenting facts here and I have stated that this is my experience and should not be generalised.
Kindly stop making this and negative place we have enough problems to deal with Edited by Admin
Fred. As you say we are in titled to our opinions. I merely expressed dismay that presenting such a negative view of an important resource in our battle with chronic pain, could put someone off even attending. They might then might miss out on something which could really benefit them.
So taking issue with your post -yes. Edited by Admin -I woukd hope not.

So you want to block my opinion if you dont agree with it?

Can we calm down on this thread and reduce the friction. Share opinions by all means but less confrontation.
no one is blocking any opinions but the rules on this site are clear and everyone is required to abide by them.
I agree

If somebody has a problem with anothers comment a private DM would be more appropriate.
They are trying to get everyone off the painkillers which can be addictive, and replace them with the mild ones like low dosages of co codemol and Co dydramol. Gps are going to be in for a lot of publicity for prescribing strong painkillers too freely, and are trying to rectify it now! The problem is that the low dosage painkillers do not help with our pain!!!… 😨xx
Yeh looks that way , was told co-codemol and pregablin that’s it , no more she could do , seriously 🤔 I mentioned the pain clinic to her n she said yes I can refer you , 👏 , I was even offered naproxen for a week just to take the edge off the pain , bearing in mind I was took off this as it was giving me sore belly everyday , I politely declined 👊 , so I’m in limbo with meds , dunno what to do , x
It's so frustrating isn't it? When I received my repeat prescription, my dihydrocodeine was replaced by a low dosage codydramol without any warning! I had to make an appointment to see the doctor, and she said that the dihydrocodeine was addictive, so had to be replaced. She replaced it with codydramol, which I can't have because it affects my liver, without even checking my medical records! They are that desperate to replace the stronger painkillers, that they could put people at risk! Xx
Hi Jackie Jackie...would you PM?

Many deal with this one.Hope you get more answers.Insurance is stoping many meds and i use it for MS to walk...I am blessed to be home but people have a life no matter what.Doing a vitamin panel has helped levels so muscle sspasms etc can be better.best wishes...
Pain clinics can b very helpful if ur open minded....
If u think that medication goin to cure everything then dont go, u may need gentle exercise, yoga, meditation, hydrotherapy, physio, meditation, relaxation exercises, strengthening exercises...
There so much that can help people with there pain it not all about popping pills!
So if ur goin just to get better meds ur prob b disheartened as some of these meds can make u worse in long time use.
I was told to meditate through pain... i also got exercise to strengthen my muscles and then relax.
I thought at first that just gona cause me pain, a year on.... i go to yoga every week even when im in pain. I swim. I also make myself walk my dogs. I also work full time...
I except the pain... it aint goin... nothing goin to stop it... no pain meds work but if i try to lead a normalish life i feel ive acheived.
What i do use is cbd oil so i try to treat it naturally it a brilliant anti inflammatory it was actually my dr who suggested it , i also take glucosamine 2000mg a day and i live on a anti imflammatory diet.
