Bulging Disc

I have just been to see my pain consultant. She says that the sciatica like pain down my buttocks and legs could be caused by a bulging disc. She wants me to have an x- ray and if it is that she says that it could be successfully treated with an epidural injection. I just wondered if anyone here has any experience ( hopefully positive ) of this. It would be so good to get some relief from this pain. I hope everyone is having as good a day as possible. Audrey

hi macglada0

I had 10 injections in my lumbar spine in 2013 for 3 bulging discs and stenosis it won't do much for the mechanical back pain but I found it helped the related nerve pain in my legs which lasted just over a month...for some it's longer others not quite so long! But don't overdo it when you feel the pain diminishing, as you can do damage as the pain isn't there to remind you!! That's why I haven't been offered it again 😞 Go for it when offered, you've nothing to lose and possibly pain free months to gain!! And we all know what that means to fibromites....less pain to worry about. 😊 xx

Thanks so much for your reply. I’m in quite a lot of pain after the steroid injections in my shoulder today. Hope this is normal and it will calm down! Your positive comments about the injections for bulging discs really helps. Xx

I would say go for it. The epidural caudal injection helped me immensly. I was unable to stand up straight as I have multiple disc bulges with exposed nerves amongst other things but within 10 days of the first injection I was standing up straight, able to roll over in bed(something I had not been able to do for years) and taking less painkillers. To me it was like a miracle,it gives you your life back for some months. I am on the waiting list for my third injection and cant wait. I know it doesnt work for everyone but what have you to lose? The injection doesnt hurt as they put in a local anaesthetic first and you have to lay on your tummy for about an hour afterwards, then you can go home. Good luck, I will keep my fingers crossed for you

Thanks so much for your positive, informative text. I think I’m getting a scan week after next and then I’m really hoping the bulging disc shows up so that they can do something to help. It’s like toothache in my buttocks and legs! Will let you know how I get on. Xx

If it is not a bulging disc, idea to check your vitamin D bloods. hip, sciatica leg pain, tailbone pain and more can also be down to low/deficient vitamin D blood levels, mine was.

Thanks for your reply. If it’s not a bulging disc then I’ll ask them to check my vitamin D though I think levels are ok. It would be so good if it is a bulging disc and epidural injections help. 🤞 I hope that your pain levels have now decreased. X
