I came down with Fibromyalgia about 15 yrs ago...and had NO IDEA what it was until I started Googling and then talking with people into alternative health...finally, a 'real doctor' said yes, that is what it was. Of course, no ideas how to help. Just pain pills. Fortunately I came across people working in our Co. Vitamin Cottage who told me taking MSN with Glucosamine would help me get rid of it...after about 5 years of so tired of being in such pain, I was ready to try anything...After taking these supplements for about 5 months...I can honestly say, my fibro was GONE!!! Some may believe me, I know others won't...
So here I am, an oldie of 80 yrs and here comes the fibro sneaking back again beginning about 2 weeks ago. (no its not arthritis) Why did it come back? No idea! So took a few MSNs haphazardly...but I know I have to stick to the routine I did years ago...Not 'prescribing' here...just telling you what worked for me. Two caps of a good brand of 1Kmg MSN with Glucosamine in the AM with a 1mg Vit C and same thing in the evening... Actually the otc pain relievers did basically NOTHING for me...and I did not want to get hooked on opiods...So, will let you know of my progress...I want to wish everyone on this site my very best...

Hi Betty30, I have had fibro for several years and I'm attending hospital for my knees ,had an MRI scan recently and waiting on results. I am in my early 60's and my walking has been greatly affected with the chronic knee and back pain, it's exhausting everyday, and the pains wake me through the night in my arms and legs and the constant restlessness in them so l would try anything. Did you mean "MSM" as I haven't found anything relating to MSN? I have never ever tried Glucosamine either so must give it a try. Thanks so much for sharing and I hope they help you again this time. hugs x
Oh dear! Yes, I did indeed mean MSM.... oh mercy, not a news channel! Thank you, 1499, for catching me on that one. Changes things quite a bit, eh??
I so hope you soon find really helpful relief from knee pain... I do know that MSM and Glucosamine won't 'hurt' you at least... it might take awhile, like a few weeks to 'really' help...but as we both know, everyone reacts differently. I so hope this finds you having a really good day. Take the best of care. Betty
Many thanks for replying Betty 30, I had heard of MSM so thought it had been a typing error but then thought MSN was maybe something different. I have ordered MSM and Glucosamine and will try and take regularly. I realise not everything works for everyone but appreciate you sharing this as anything is worth a try. Hope you are feeling better, hugs Xx
Hi Betty, The MSM I ordered and the Glucosamine are both 1000mg. I started taking them then read your post saying should take more of the MSM. For the first couple of days I felt the MSM were upsetting my stomach a bit so I cut down to one a day. I actually have been taking a half of the MSM in the morning and evening and one glucosamine. I haven't bought any Vit.C as yet.
Does it really matter if I'm taking the same strength of MSM and Glucosamine? Believe it or not the last few days I have not been in as much pain!!! (long may it continue) . I find it difficult to lift my legs up to get me shoes on or other similar movements like climbing over the bath to have a shower (not long moved here and don't have a walk in shower as in my last home).
I took Celedrin for a while which seemed to help then it didn't, so I stopped that. The mornings are my worst time and I have to take two tramadols after breakfast. I try not to take anymore through the day unless I have to, and I am supposed to take either one or two amitriptyline in the evening. I very rarely ever go to bed and am able to sleep straight through. I waken up every hour or so and I'm up and down to the bathroom also several times a night which I believe are both connected with fibromyalgia. I feel if I take tramadol in the evening it puts me off my sleep, and I only take one amitriptyline though two do help me to sleep but make me so so sluggish the next day.
I am on hypertension medication also as well as the rest and don't honestly like taking any medication so try to limit the fibro meds if I can. My physio advised there was a lot of cracking and crunching going on in my knees and my Dr only requested MRI on one knee which I found a bit strange. Dr thinks it could be cartilage or arthritis. I avoid kneeling as my knees lock and my back also hasn't helped my mobility though the Physio at the hospital says there is nothing can be done for my back unless I needed surgery and he doesn't want to expose me to x-rays.
He compared to my local physio I felt seemed to know what he was about, and it was the first time really that I had been put through several movements and he seemed to be up on fibromyalgia which was good. He feels my kneecaps aren't sliding into place properly and I should get the results on 6th February. I am hoping it is fibro related as don't really want anything else lol!
I hope you are getting help being back onto the MSM and Glucosamine and can advise if I am doing ok with taking this amount. My stomach hasn't been so irritable since taking a half MSM morning and night. Thanks again for sharing this with our fibro-family. I should maybe have sent you a private message if I can remember even how to do this, and apologise for the lengthy message . I do go on at times hee hee
