Ok , so I have had this going on for months . Sudden muscle twitches that can happen anywhere in my body . If it's in my hand it can make a pen scoot across the page it's that strong . Anyone else suffer from it ?

You are not alone. When I'm writing or using a keyboard and mouse my hands start twitching before cramping painfully. My back is the most painful I suffer with, to the point that I now have sciatica in both legs.

I have found that when it starts to happen don't fight it, it only gets worse. I take deep, controlled breaths until it stops. Instead of my hands and back cramping and spasms lasting up to an hour, I've managed to get it down to about 10 mins. Also try hot/cold therapy. When it gets painful, warm the area up then cool it. Towels are a good way of doing this.

Twitches can be so bad, my other half often wears my coffee, I throw food up walls, I fall over from twitches in my leg, I hit myself and I regularly slap my partner in my sleep. I get twitches in my back that stop me from being able to move, this is fine until it happens crossing a road. I have lost count of the number of times I have dropped my crutches because of twitches in my fingers. I think if you can manage to see the funny side it makes it easier to cope with, my partner standing in front of me with coffee running down his face and a teaspoon on his head makes me laugh and when he says really again I just fall about.

Hi Veggiehog I have been having strong muscle twitches in my hands which scare the life out of me when I’m chopping veg the knife either narrowly misses my other wrist or ends up on the floor between my feet..... so far I and my dogs (who love to run off with stray veg pieces which shoot off the cutting board) have not needed emergency treatment. Luckily they seem to be over with in a minute or so. I wonder if it’s because my upper arm muscles are always tense.

I also get them in my back, neck, legs.

Well have a good one and happy new year when it comes x

Do this also, have cut fingers, arm, foot . I often wonder how the cat and I are still a alive, she always follows me in kitchen in hope of food. Rarely cook now due to flying knives and confusion. Have actually stood looking at cup trying to remember how to make a hot drink !

Hi Veggiehog. I get muscle twitches too. I've had it for a while now. Mine is all over the body and it's really random. Just to get an idea of where it is occurring over a period of time, I charted it pictorially on a human body.....of course not every muscle twitch but most of them. That also came in handy when I spoke to my GP about it. Really much easier showing them the picture instead of explaining.

Yes I know what you mean. I used to pin up the diagram on a wall and if I get a twitch and I'm in the room, I would mark it on the diagram. I used to do it immediately otherwise I would forget. I only mapped it as I was getting twitches all over and in some odd places like underarm, under the chin, on my jawline etc

Thanks Dishasds that’s a great idea I’ll draw some body shapes and do just that... it’s good to know that we’re not alone having weird symptoms with no obvious cause stops me thinking I’m losing my marbles... have a great new year.

Yes I quite often think am I losing my marbles too! But always good to give (as much as you can) accurate info to GP. I forget so many things that I often write things down. It is a bit of work but I can look back and see how something has developed/improved over time. I do the same with meds. I chart it so I know how much and how often I'm taking. Wishing you a new year filled with joy, hope and strength x

Thanks that’s very helpful I’ve got a new journal for Christmas which I’m dedicating to my fibromyalgia and meds... starting this tomorrow.... because I also have inflammation markers I was diagnosed with polymyalgia rheumatica and was on steroids for 6 months and kept a log reading that earlier this month was revealing, I mentioned mood, pain , sleep and dose of meds. Now rheumy says that’s not severe enough to treat so therefore I have fibromyalgia.

Have a great new year lots of healing hugs x

Hi I have this problem to, but for me it's mostly my legs, often I end up kicking people under the table or hubby on the sofa, or tripping up, haven't found a solution though.

Yes definately, I have a habit of throwing dinner, drinks etc across the floor. Have been using melamine plates and plastic cup for a few years. It is especially bad when I am exhausted or pain levels rise. A couple of times had injection at dentists which caused my arm to vibrate and jerk constantly for 20 minutes, dentist said he had never seen anyone react like that before.

Mine started out mild and that was due to meds but not so sure now... I hope I don’t offend but I call it my body turrets ...

I get them in my face too as I have Atypical Trigeminal Neuralgia and have had two facial ops on the nerves ... so pleased you can’t really tell. One side of my face is slightly bigger than the other but I am fussy as I was a beauty/holistic therapist

Healing hugs fellow twitchers xx
