I have tried everything under the sun to ease my pain over the last 7 years. After ending up in hospital with pneumonia last year after starting a new immunosuppressant I decided that was the final straw. I didn't want the toxic side effects of these drugs if they didnt even take all of the pain away....what was the point?! I came off medication and painkillers and now manage my conditions with pacing myself, help around the house and lots of yoga. This is the best I have felt in 7 years...I no longer need crutches, am so much more flexible and pain levels are fairly low as long as I don't take on too much. I wanted to start a support group in my area and also teach other fibromites about how yoga has helped me so I trained as a yoga teacher. My first class for chronic pain sufferes starts soon and if anyone on here is local to me you are welcome to join for a good relaxing stretching session, meditation and chat/support also included for those who want it :). It would be good to get together for local support Edited by Admin

Thank you Dryad. It's all we can do isn't it! keep trying new things and don't give up. I believe there is something for everyone, its just finding it. Stay positive xx
Hi Fallabella, yes there is chair yoga which can be very beneficial. I am looking into setting up a chair yoga class at the moment...its very interesting. If you can get onto Youtube have a look for Sherry Zac Morris and Richard Kravetz...their classes are good x
Hi BlueMermaid3, it sounds like you have taken something positive out of yoga and made it work for you! That's great news! That's exactly what I was trying to achieve with my chronic pain class. It's all done down on the floor or on a chair so nice and easy with lots of support and very gentle stretching :). I am glad I can help people in the same boat as me really and it's been nice to meet others with Fibro and other conditions in my area and they tell me they are feeling benefits from coming so that's very satisfying
Keep up the good work Lu, even when you dont feel like moving...it makes a difference!
I also came off all meds as I came to the same conclusion as you . Due to recent diagnosis of goitres in my thyroid I've had to go back on to amitryptiline which I wasn't happy about and I don't think it's helping either. I started to do yoga and Pilates back in January and have had so much improvement in my mobility and pain levels, I'm not free from pain and have flare ups still but I must say the change I've experienced is incredible. Good luck on your new venture.
Hi, just wondering how you came of your meds? Did you taper? I so desperately want to come of my meds but everytime I do I find my pain worsens and then I am back on them. I would love to be medication free.

Yes I did it one medication at a time, I started taking the tablets every other day for a week then every two days for a week etc but it might be wise to get the advice from your gp before you start as everyone is different. I still have pain but it's manageable at the moment. Good luck.
Hi I noticed you said you were on immunosuppressant? I never heard of doctors prescribing immunosuppressant for fibromyalgia, could you share what the medication was and why it helps with fibromyalgia? Thanks!
