Its been a very long time since i have written about my then 14/15 year old daugher. we were having a rather difficult time, faced being homeless moved from one place to another trying to find health care that did not involve medication (or too much medication).
We considered Spain - did it work....YES YES and a bigger YES.
Firstly she is not cured, nor has all her symptoms disappeared but what has changed:
* she does not research suicide methods and has not considered suicide
* her moods are balanced and depression or low moods considerably reduced
* pain levels reduced and increased ability to walk
*fatigue levels reduced significantly - increased ability to get involved in schooling, social life etc.
* Fibro fog reduced ( we relooked at different ways of thinking and planning.. her ability to read has not changed; reading and remembering what she has read is still extremely poor). We have looked at text to speech programmes.
Massage/physio/holistic treatments - Much cheaper, much cheaper (though with pound getting expensive). Her hips become stiff and kind of lock - she does stretching exercises daily to deal with this
All in All - a planned programme of change, the sea air and the salt has made a huge difference. Of course I can no longer afford to be in Spain, schooling fees and drop of pound has wiped me out but I had to take her out of school for the last term and taught her at home.
Schooling - was a major problem;
* she was put in a group for children who spoke English as second language (it meant the school did not have to think about her 'fibro fog')
Actually I don't wont to fill you in with the problems but for any parents the following would be helpful
* quiet space to learn
* text to speech programmes
* sen who understands fM and its impact on work
* structure learning with additional support to grasp new concepts
* school that is honest and willing to train teachers
The school was a problem and I only realise very late that they had made up a lot of information, hence I took my daughter out of school and got her ready for her IGCSE
it has been 2 years, i am tired and what more can i say, poor but happier. I have had no shoes for months (flipflops) because I gave up the little job i had and the pound lost its value. we have come home now, because we cannot afford to stay, but Spain was not a long term destination for me. Ah I forgot
Vitamin B complex 100% - she takes these daily and we do notice a difference after a week of not taking these. Its a cheap brand we found in Aldi ( dissolvable).
We are back for her 6th form options but right now my daughter walks without aid, stays awake all day, moods lifted. I might be quite poor right now and looking for work again but my daughter is so much happier if I could send you a photo of before and after it would be surprising.
We have decided that if her ability starts to be affected I might send her back...but I don't know. Oh her grades of course I am her mother and I believe I am a good teacher and well i will post her results..
I am back and my daughter is a very different child..it was not easy in Spain, not at all for a child with a disability (in a British School), but I think that we have found a way of tackling FM and it was done to taking pain killers steriods, etc..i still think not much is known and drugs are a plaster for symptoms that we really don't understand. I think going to a hot climate should be part of a child's treatment, perhaps a 6 month programme or 1 year programme. Spain has saved the NHS a great deal of money.
I will let you know about 6th form and her GCSE results!!! I would like to send her to a small private school so that she is not affected by the 'hustle and speed' of larger schools. But right now unless I get a job it may be home schooling for A levels..either way its like having a very different child.
Again hi all and I hope you are all well!!! Crossed fingers for results! first one is due is 10th August!!! then 24th August!!!
