Few years past the menopause but have been diagnosed with FM for over 10yrs so went thru the menopause during this time...symptoms so similar!
having just been away it has prompted me to start investigating 'stuff' again....was ok during the heatwave as everybody in sme boat but I'm still in it!
Not really into taking pills but wondered if this is worth a try...basically have been feeling much better for the past 3mths - just agave up for a few wks...did me the world of good!
Not relaxing enough is part of my problem as is pushing myself too much but...am addressing those problems...hence going away which has worked a treat! Apart from glowing like a good un!!
Maybe just need to be patient (continue being patient!) in the hope that things will continue to improve and will start glowing less, moods tend to fluntuate and although cope well with this it is tiring!
So the B.C might not help, certainly dont want to make anything worse...
Its sooo difficult to know...until have started taking something and even then its difficult to tell.
Was on thyroxine for years then thyroid starting working again, which is great but had a year of taking reducing dose of levothyroxine until stopped it altogether, that was horrendous.
So reluctant to take anything as this body seems to do weird things with tabs!!
A couple of friends who are now in their 60's, says they still get the hot flushes now and then. Apparently, the symptoms last longer than we would like to believe!
Hi jcnps I'm sorry you are having hot flushes, it can be very embarrassing sometimes. I can't really add to what others have already said, I get flushes & went through menopause early, some 30 yrs ago now. People with fibro find it difficult to regulate their body temperature. You should maybe mention it to your gp when you next visit because lots of things are put down to fibro & it may not be the case.
I am so genuinely sorry to read this and many Fibro sufferers endure a condition called Hyperhidrosis which is quite unpleasant sweating. I have pasted you a link to the NHS Choices cache on this below:
As well as a fellow sufferer , I am also going through the menopause, so this may not help you but I have been taking sage tablets and they help with the sweats tremendously well . Maybe worth a try ?
Also beware , Black cohosh shouldn't be taken for longer than 6 months, it can damage your liver .
Hi, I tried Black cohosh when going through the menopause, but seemed to have no benefits, I do however find that soya milk which contains natural oestrogen seems to help me (I use soya milk on my porridge and add it to my cup of tea) However the sweating and flushes caused by fibromyalgia .... well they just happen!! For me they seem worst when I am under pressure or stressed! I just hope that nobody will notice, and sometimes I just pretend it is a menopausal symptom, because people understand and sympathise with that explanation!
Hi I'd heard it was good and mentioned it to my mum a few years back, however, when she took it her blood pressure went through the roof. Just my penny's worth x
Hi, I have had fibro for ,I think, around twenty years or more but was only diagnosed in 2005. I also suffer from excess sweating, especially from my head, and have done so for several years. I had a hysterectomy at 43, 28 years ago, and didn't notice any menopause symptoms except an inability to sleep after a year, for which I was prescribed HRT patches and stayed on them for about twenty years. I came off them because I was finding it difficult to lose weight and thought it might help. The sweating got worse through my sixties so I couldn't put it down to being menopausal.
I have researched Hyperhidrosis and one thing I found was that it can be due to anxiety. Not necessarily the kind of anxiety that causes great worry, but the kind our bodies deal with on a daily basis, for example a mild altercation with a spouse or colleague, getting stuck in a crowd or traffic jam when you are in a hurry. Since learning this I have noticed many occasions this has happened. The theory was that we should produce a chemical called L-Theanine and we don't. I tried taking this as a supplement but it had no effect whatsoever, so I wouldn't recommend spending money on that! I think our body has to produce L-Theanine at the time and place for it to be effective. reading the NHS link above there is no advise regarding sweating from the head so I am still at a loss!
Living out in Cyprus I am getting used to the hotter weather, AND my fibro pains are much lessened, however the head sweating is a problem. I find I need to sit under a fan to cool me down and take away the moisture (there is usually that choice in a restaurant and the shops are always air conditioned which is great!) When I am bowling outdoors I wear a visor with a towelling lining or a hat and a sweat band and always carry a small towel to mop up. People often remark how hot I look, it's just a part of my life!
