I have fibro... and been treating it with acupuncture, muscle relaxers and "happy pills" which seemed to work for the past 2 yrs. Now for the past 2 days my throat has felt swollen to the point that I feel like I can't swallow my saliva. And my appetite is BLAH... Does anyone else have this problem?? My mom says I should have my thyroid checked, but I don't want to go through the testing of it really is a Fibromyalgia thing. Any advice is greatly appreciate.

Can't swallow my saliva!
Hi JUDYNSD619
Welcome to the forum and it is wonderful to make your acquaintance. I sincerely hope that you find the forum useful, informative and loads of fun! I have pasted you a link to our mother site, Fibromyalgia Action UK which hosts loads of useful Fibro information: fmauk.org/
I am so genuinely sorry to read that you are suffering and struggling with problems swallowing your saliva, and I sincerely hope that you find the answers that you desire and deserve. It is not a problem that I experience with my Fibro but that does not mean that other members may not suffer with this issue?
I was wondering if you had any other problems with your swallowing? As there are other medical conditions that can cause issues with this. I have pasted you a link to the NHS Choices cache on Dysphagia (swallowing problems) which I hope that you find useful: nhs.uk/conditions/Dysphagia...
There could be other reasons why you are experiencing this issue, as it could be medication related, such as an allergic reaction? In this case it really would be best to discuss the problem with your doctor or Medical Specialist to try and ascertain the true cause of this and get the problem solved as soon as possible. As you do not mention what medications you are taking I cannot look up the side effects or allergic reaction specifications on these drugs.
I want to genuinely and sincerely wish you all the best of luck.
All my hopes and dreams for you
Ken
You might want to listen to your mom on this one. I do have some problems swallowing but nothing that bad at all. I would have that checked out!
Have they checked you for sjorgens syndrome ,swollen glands , dry eyes , mouth etc ,just a thought ,look it up on the Nhs web site

I think your Mom is right. Get your thyroid checked and if you're in any doubt, get a print out of your results and get over to the ThyroidUK forum on here.
i've had problems with swallowing. i saw an e.n.t. who was able to diagnose the problem after running a few tests. it can be very frightening to not be able to swallow. although i had the issue taken care of i still have a problem with swallowing sometimes. these days i have the most problems with swallowing when trying to get to sleep. have found that if i sleep partially sitting up it helps but please do get it checked out. best of luck..
