Hi. I am mostly without Opiates now. Bad side effects and become addictive and if they do help to begin with, they become less and less effective. Now use them occasionally and so they can be helpful when really needed. I am in pain most of the time and it becomes a daily battle to get the best effects of different levels of pain. I have a number of other options more effective for FM pain eg. Duloxetine, Gabapentine, Amitriptyline. What works for one may not work for someone else. Different causes of pain as well.

It may take time, but I hope you can find they best answer for you asap! :) xx

I was on both Duloxatine and Gabapentine, I remember reading on one of the leaflets in the boxes that at least one of them had side effects including gum problems, I have been taken of both of these, I was also taking Amytriptyline for years, and as soon as I stopped taking that the incontinence problems I had had went away as well.

I think my problem is i'm vulnerable already vulnerable to so many of the possible side effects it's a matter of whether the it's a good trade of to what the benefit treatments are in it. I am taking far fewer meds than I used to. I would love to dump the whole lot but i'm stuck with what's left. :) xx

Please do go check out the mother site fmauk.org where you will find lots of useful information and links on fibro and I look forward to chatting with you on the forum

Hi ljay2012

I sincerely hope that you are feeling as well as you possibly can be today? Welcome to the forum and it is wonderful to make your acquaintance. I am so genuinely sorry to read this and the *mydental.guardianlife the dentistry website suggest chewing sugar free gum. I have pasted you an excerpt on their cache on pain medications:

*Pain Medications

Pain meds and NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) have also been shown to cause tooth decay as a result of dry mouth. Typically, popping an Excedrin for a headache every once in awhile won’t cause problems, but prolonged use of OxyContin, Tramadol, and similar pain meds have resulted in severe dental issues in chronic pain populations. To combat this, sip water throughout the day, chew sugarless gum, practice good dental hygiene, and use a moisturizing mouth spray.

I want to sincerely wish you all the best of luck and please take care of yourself my friend.

All my hopes and dreams for you

Ken
