Doctor in the house
Hi my friend
I watched this as well, and I found it fascinating. The thing that got me was one the patients involved never adapted his bedroom so he would not pick up injuries, i.e. metal bed post at end of bed and solid drawers next to top of bed. It may have helped him a great deal to have adapted his bedroom?
All my hopes and dreams for you
Ken
It seems odd that lack of good sleep can affect our pain levels so much.
Vitamin B12 can be bought over the counter and is relatively inexpensive, you would think that it would be better promoted.
Thank you for posting.

Hello Dimplez18 ,
I hope things are going well for you?
I watched that episode of " dr in the house" too. The man was recommended to have a special personalized preparation of vitamins and minerals one of which was vitamin b12 at many times the strength of the usually recommended daily amount?
I would love to know how to access this level of expertise with common vitamins and minerals? As i get the feeling that this knowledge is probably outside the scope of the average Gp in most Uk surgeries?
I think that the patients featured on this BBC program are incredibly fortunate to have encountered this doctor?
Best wishes xx
Hi can I watch this somewhere on catch up? And do you know what strength vitamin B12 the doctor prescribed? Ty
B12 is the vitamin that is often touted as a particular challenge for people on a vegan diet. So most vegans take B12 tablets and thus in fact are not at risk. On the other hand a large part of the population may also be at risk of deficiency, but they don't realise it (unless they watch programs like this one).
B12 is made by bacteria in the ground and anyone or any animal who lives on nutrient rich plants should not have an issue with B12. However much cheap meat is factory farmed and may not be as a good source of B12 as it could be. Also most supermarket vegetables are washed thoroughly to look and be "clean" and shiny. Gone are the days of vegetables in most shops, apart from the odd potato, covered in soil.
I take 3x 1000mg B12 tabs per week.
Could I ask you where you get 1000mg of B12 from? Most High St shops are low dosage and additives.
Look on amazon, there are 5000mg and 1000mg sublingual tablets.
Not available on the High St then!
Well you can have it delivered to the High St if Amazon have a collection point there. Heehee hee. So...technically....
Could I make you aware drugs are issued in micrograms and milligrams, mcg are 1000th the strength of mgs so what you have suggested are between 1 - 5mgs a gp would prescribe between 400-1000 mgs if you are deficient mostly given by injection .
Yeah sure the whole mcg mg thing. Ok I see you saw the error with the first question you asked. My bad.
I'm glad this can help. Going to speak to my pharmacits and ask how many b12 I can take in a day as on the bottle it says 1 a day. I'm glad the info helped you guys.
He had very high Homocysteine levels didn't he? He was given B6 and B12 tablet preparation at 500 times the dose I think, his levels came down to normal.
With Folate too..I think.
I've been prescribed B12 injections for severe fatigue. I have them weekly. 8 weeks in & I don't feel any better at all
