Dental problems

Thought I would ask you guys. Have suddenly started developing tooth/gum ache. Just once then probably not again for a couple of days. Dont usually suffer from dental issues and have an appointment on the 20th. Was wondering if this was related to ME/fibromyalgia as it appeared out of the blue.

Hi Little star,

Happy New year to you. Apart from being a member of the best Fibro family ever I am a qualified registered Dental Nurse. I would say keep your appointment on the 20th and in the mean time keep the area clean using flossing or interdental brushes and use a Corsdodyl mouthwash.

If a tooth near the gum area starts hurting ,then go and see your dentist sooner because it could be something elce.

I am sure that this is not Fibro related.

Take care.

As Smiler69 says do keep the dental appointment just in case but this could have many causes.

Fibromites often have what I call phantom pains in the gums when there is nothing actually wrong I am one if them. My teeth and gums will ache away for 2 weeks at a time and then as mysteriously as the pain comes it goes. I have had this since having wisdom teeth out even though Xrays show nothing wrong.

You also might be grinding your teeth especially at night we often do this when stressed or in pain. WhenI am in alot of pain I actually realise my teeth are literally clenched together. Good luck in the 20th.x

As rosewine says, fibro pain can move around and can be 'referred pain'.

Apart from having TMD I have pain under me bottom jaw, no rhyme nor reason, it just is :-P

You do need to pay attention to Smiler69 as well :-)

Hi Littlestar82 X A VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU X

I have had pain in my teeth & gums & jaw ever since I was diagnosed with Fibro, which involves (amplified pain,) so any gum pain caused by inflammation can be extra painful. (That goes for other sources of mouth pain, as well.) Basically I get pain under my fingernails and was told this is nerve pain and anywhere you have nerves, I get pain.

Even now that I have most of my teeth removed, I still get sore & pain in my gums . I have been to the dentists many times to be told there is nothing that is causing my tooth pain.

Obviously I'm not saying that everyone with fibro is like this but I know a good few who have the same problems. Luckily my dentist is very clued up on Fibro and I think they have to be now because it can make a difference to your treatment. I think also they can even refer you to a specialist if they suspect you have Fibromyalgia, so I'm guessing they know quite a lot about it to be able to suspect it lol

Anyway sorry for rambling on lol but, yes as always, any new pains should be checked out and not necessarily associated with Fibro. If you look over to the right of the screen you will see RELATED POSTS under this are links to other members discussions on this topic.

Peace, luv n light

I do believe it is. I have 2 teeth with gum receeding and when I chew my teeth ache but yet dentist says all is well, I have reverted to sensitive toothpaste and I rub it on teeth that ache as well as brushing, it does ease the ache, I have a shield for my bottom set of teeth to stop night time grinding, something many people do but are not aware of, the dentist made it for me. Hope this helps.

Hi Littlestar82

I am so genuinely sorry to read this my friend, and as the other have said it may be beneficial to keep your appointment with the dentist. I get a lot of infections due to asthma and COPD and I have found that I get toothache for no apparent reason when I have these infections? I want to sincerely wish you all the best of luck, and please take care of yourself.

All my hopes and dreams for you

Ken

My sympathies as I have had this 4 times in last month, also have jaw pain and pain on tops of eyes. Went to optician who advised muscle pain due to fibro and advised reactive lenses may help, have decided to get these. Going to book dentist appt tomorrow if possible although can't see problem with teeth, just gum pain. Hope your pain subsides soon x
