Free glasses & dental treatment !!!

Does anyone know if we can't get free glasses & dental treatment while on contribution based esa ( surpport group )

Hi my husband went on this luckily only for 2 weeks between jobs.We were told no you cant get anything free unless on income based esa rsther than contribution based.Check it out but seems yhe passport to getting stuff free is the phrase income based x

hi there,.i don't think it does entitle you automatically.i was on incapacity benefit -now ESA support group and not entitled so have a HC3(?)form to fill in and I pay for my prescriptions by direct debit of £10.40 a month.it also entitles you to only pay a certain amount fro dental ,opticians and other stuff.as p1pp1ns says your ESA would have to be income related to qualify for free treatment.

No. You can get free dental care and glasses if you are receiving Income Based ESA. I receive free specs as I am over 40 and have diabetes. X

Look on the internet at NHS Choices and the section Help With Health costs and then click on the dentistry and optical parts and that will explain who can ask for help. It actually goes on the overall income of those living in the household so if you have a very low income even though it is contribution based ESA there might be a chance of getting some help by filling in certain forms which is explained in that section and also if you are eligible how to get the forms. I was on contribution based Esa for 12 months. I now qualify for contribution based with a top up of income based Esa.

Unfortunately, contribution based Esa entitles you to nothing! You would need to ask (I think) at your GP surgery for a form to apply for a HC3 certificate. This gives you free prescriptions, dentist & glasses.

I found it a very strange system. Basically if you have never worked, you get everything free. Whereas if you have worked and paid NI contributions throughout your life, you get nothing. You also get less money from Esa too! So, you get less but pay for everything! (sorry, rant over lol).

Good luck, just wait until you have the HC3 before having anything done.

basically you will be means-tested and if your overall income is low enough, you can get help.
