Hi everyone, I'm new to this site, was told to have a look by my CBT. I was just wondering if any of you poor suffers out there have had episodes of falling to one side, it feels like I'm going to fall over and so many times I seem to hit doorframes even though I know they are there. Feed up with the Bruises on my arms 😔

Hay Bartzgirl
Not sure what a CBT is, but never mind. Firstly, welcome to our mad world, a world where we all (sometimes) understand each other. Comfort, support, care, suggestions and ideas, love (without conditions), but never judgement. Our dear friends in Admin will send you the official welcome soon.
Sound like you have a balance problem, which I sometimes get when I stand up. This could be something like an ear infection (doesn't have to be painful so not noticed), which a visit to your GP should rule out. If so, then your GP should be making referrals for you for investigation. So, off to GP first.
My problem is when I stand up from kneeling, getting to my feet without loosing my balance has been getting slowly worse, and I have been checked and no ear infection. My daughter brought me one of the garden seats/kneelers, which is a real great help when at my allotment.
Again welcome to our world and your new summer home. 🌞
Hayesider, fingers crossed easily resolved for you. Xx
Hi Hayesider thanks for your reply CBT is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. I have been to GP and as always they can not find anything wrong and they say it is down to my Fibromyalgia as they always say x
Hay Bartzgirl,
Thanks for the title, but still none the wiser, so leaving that to friends on here that do understand.
If the loss of balance isn't down to visible ear infection, I would have thought an Ear/Nose/Throat referral should have been considered, it obviously needs further investigation. Your CB therapist obviously thinks it's important, and it seems to be continuing, not just a one/two off.
Knowing my local medical set-up, I would go to our local NHS Walk-in for attention, or A&E if not available. Showing the bruises and mentioning Fibro might help, I have learnt to mention 'worst case' situations to get any action. The possibility of falling over out in the street could be dangerous.
As I said, no medical training, but think you need some help from somewhere for this. Hope other friends can come to your help, we all come on a different times, and some replies can come days later, and be just the bit of info you need.
Keep in touch and let us know how you get on, your experience might help others in the future.
Hayesider, mmmmmmmm ! Xxx
Hi Bart girl
Welcome. Yes I have the same. It feels like I'm drunk and go towards the one side. I walk into the door frames too. Blummin hurts too. I walk with a stick now as I really can't walk straight. Had ears checked they're fine. So yes another lovely fibro symptom.
Take care
Thanks for the reply sorry u suffer also but nice I'm not alone. How long after did you have to start using a stick it has been a suggestion? Spos you had to buy your own also x
A couple of years as it got worse. Yeah I bought my own. I got it off the internet £5. I should say that it wasn't just my balance but my fibro got worse also. I feel alot safer with my stick. If you need to know anything more then I'm here. Take care. Angie xx
Thank you. Ya my fibromyalgia is bad at the moment and I have started to get bad headache, fed up at the moment as all the GP ever says is its your fibromyalgia nothing we can do. Thanks for your support Angie x
I walk with a stick to help with balance and then keep tripping over the blooming stick.
Sounds like me 😁
Oh bless you xxx
Hi and welcome, yes I get wobbly and bang into things, also bruise really easily, friends are always telling me I walk sideways "like a crab" as I bang into them as well, it's always been put down to my fibro, take care x
Hi, a very very warm welcome to you !!!!
I do help that we can be off help to you ????
Yes I'm having frequent falls.
This is due to a mixture off a previous Stroke & now Chroinc Pain.
The Stroke in 1998 effected the whole off my left hand side.
My Chronic Pain which started in 2005 following "Brain Radioation Surgery"
Has effected my "right hand side"
So I don't have a "Good" side anymore !!!!!
"Please don't tell everyone though"
Please let me know if I can help you ????
Hi Steve I know what you mean. Spondylosis attacks my left side and now the costacondritis is on the right. Struggling with my stick in my left hand. Its lovely this fibro!!!! 😫😫You take care
Angie
Hi Angie.
Yes live sucks sometime "hey"
I did try using a stick some years ago now.
But the Stroke effected my whole left side.
So I would hit some/all people with it.
No not on purpose "honest"
I can no longer do anything on that side off my body anymore.
All the best 🤗😆😇😄😃😆
It must be so hard for you trying to manage with one hand. I know I have trouble trying to do everything with my right hand as using my left arm is so plainfull on my left. I had a slight stroke last year but luckily I had no lasting symptoms. Take care xx
Gosh you were lucky with the Stroke.
Yes it is really difficult as I'm left handed as well.
Yes I tried carrying my hot drink with my left hand earlier.
I had a very very. hot shower.
With no drink either !!!!
Oh dear. It's so frustrating isn't it. The op's are bringing me a trolley tomorrow so that will be better. I've got my good arm pressed to my ribs and bad side is to weak. I dropped my dinner on the floor the other day trying to get to my chair with a tray while using my stick. Found out I can't juggle though. Take care xx
Hello and welcome. I have terrible balance, I am forever wabaling into things.
Hi Bartzgirl,
Do you have problems with your hips? I have a similar issue and my doctor thinks it's because of my hip laxity (looseness and weakness in the hip joint). Also if you have dropped arches it may be worth looking into getting some custom made insoles. When I went to get mine they analysed my gait and saw that I walk more heavily on one side as that leg is longer than the other, so they made one insole higher to even it out. Most people have different length legs but it tends to cause more problems in people with fallen arches, it may also be causing you to lean more to one side.
Best of luck x
Welcome to our friendly forum. Yes I often veer to one side and doorframes come out and hit me, it is their fault not mine, LOL. I tend to so this when I am very tired or in alot of pain it is as though my body is putting all its energy into getting me going rather than balancing me. I find this especially noticeable say when I get upon the night to go to the loo or have been sitting working in the same position for too long as my joints and muscles stiffen up. Look forward to your future posts.x
I have just had a drunken sailor day. I have walked into door frames taken two steps forwards and two backwards. Had a juggling act with a jar lid and dropped most things that i have picked up. My speach is slurred and words forgotten, Just hoping that tomorrow is better.
Sue
Hi Sue sounds like your in the same boat as me. I've been dropping and knocking things over all day. I drink a lot of water and I have to in a bottle because I keep knocking glasses over. Table Lamp shades are my specialty. I brake every one I have. Got two lamps now with wonky shades 😕 xx
I am back to drinking out of plastic `glasses` because i have broken all but one off our glass glasses. Does that make sense.?
i think its bed time i have been tired all day and its doctors tomorrow. nite nite.
Night and God bless x
Hahahaha...my middle name is "fall down" mine is due to lack of zzzzzzz every night so fall asleep standing up all the time....meaning I go down with a bang! Also have bruises galore! Sigh! xx Welcome to our site!
Hi Bartzgirl
I sincerely hope that you are feeling as well as you possibly can be today? Welcome to the forum and it is wonderful to make your acquaintance. I have pasted you a link below to our mother site, FMA UK which hosts loads of useful Fibro information:
I personally have very poor mobility and have had a couple of falls recently. I use a tri-walker to get around as I really struggle these days. I want to sincerely wish you all the best of luck, and please take care of yourself.
All my hopes and dreams for you
Ken
yes, constantly, i feel like im drunk without the drink and effects. its like a vertigo but without the room spinning. i do also have episodes of the room spinning and fall over. i also have drunk leg symdrome (not a real condition) they just dont seem part of my body and i really wobble about and crash into things then. oh the joys lmao i get undressed sometimes and think where did all these bruises come from. legs, arms, shoulders, hips, my ribs and back and i cant remember doing them, probably did at the time and probably swore but yes i totally get it.
hugs xx
