As I sit here at the pc with a hot water bottle stuffed up my bra at the back, I read your message! I got up like this today-yes my friend it can be fibro related but I know what I did yesterday that caused it- I dragged a sack of topsoil from the shed to my front garden to relay new!! Very stupid when I have a good neighbour who would have done it for me, instead I asked him to put together a new strimmer!! Fibro fog!! Seriously I take my normal pain relief for this and either use my TENS machine -if the pain is where I can reach- or a hot water bottle on the muscle to relieve the pain, I shall plant my winter bulbs with the water bottle in situ today..Hope you feel better as the day goes by..

I get this a lot! It's always worse if I've been driving the day before. Some days it hurts to breathe. It IS fibo-related and another of the many painful symptoms we have to put up with.

Macberts , I don't have that pain but I get like a knife stabbing pain at times.May ask gp as it sounds painful!! Best wishes . Peck.🐤

That really solves a mystery for me. I had this pain, feeling as if my whole chest cavity was being crushed, so painful, when I first had atrial fibrillation. It never occurred to me that it might be fibro related even though the consultant said it was nothing to do with my heart. Thank you for posting this and I hope you find some relief from it soon. xx

I suffer with costo chondritis which inflammation of the rib cage and us really painful it was the start of there fibro woes. I have three pain patches on as I type which has just taken the pain down a couple of notches. I first got it on my side and front and lying down or sitting even was so painful. Trouble is the you start to shallow breathe as each breath is painful which can make us feel lightheaded.

I also have a different pain which is marvellous related from my spine in my back but that tends to be more searing and hot which Pregablin has helped to a certain degree. I actually sometimes find that freeze gel helps me personally more than heat.

I would have personally thought the GP would have wanted to examine you as they should never assume that everything is fibro related. Do hope you get some relief soon as I wouldn't wish the pain on my worse enemy.😨

Hallo rosewine. I was examined by my GP, A&E consultant and ward consultant and basically they weren't interested! Gave me some morphine largely to shut me up, I think! I had it for a few weeks until they finally diagnosed the AF and started me on Amiodarone. Thank goodness I haven't had it since. I hope it is not constant for you as it's unbearable. Sending you very, very gentle hugs. xx

rosewine in reply toannacruachan

Thanks for the soft hugs. You know that us something I miss a really good hug. Unfortunately I always have it to a certain degree haven't worn a bra in 6 years and even a stretchy vest some days us a no-no. I think we do learn to live with background pain to a certain degree but that one can be a bit soul destroying.

Glad at least you were examined as I couldn't tell by your post if you had been as so many GP's seem to be doing these telephone consults. It us just that the symptoms of a year attack or lung blood clot can be similar and I was a little concerned.

They don't have to stand the pain, if I hear "there us no cure and it us a case of learning to live with it on a daily basis" once more I reckon I will have the screaning hab dabs, lol. Take care of yourself.x

Hi Macberts

There is a conditon that rosewine has described called Costochondritis which many Fibro sufferers seem to get.

It is basically inflammation of the chest wall.

I get it quite a lot.

It is good that you have checked it out with your GP as all chest pain needs to be taken seriously.

There is a temptation to just put things down to Fibro but any symptoms that are new to you (anyone on the forum) should always be checked out by your doctor.

Chest pain should always be taken seriously and if anyone is ever in any doubt they should call an Ambulance.

If it hasn't settled down by the end of the week I would check with your GP again just to be on the safe side.

Wishing you less pain and more peace

Hi Macbeth

Look up Costacondritis and check if you relate to the symptons. I find this one of the most painful sides to fibro. Although I had this before fibro was diagnosed. I've had 3 big flare ups of this in 4 years. To me it has 3 stages. The first your bent over and cannot straighten up without extreme pain. you try and keep as still as possible. That lasts a couple of days and then it changes. The pain is constant but not so excruciating. With me this lasts 6 months. It hurts to have a conversation because of breathing. To turn in bed. To get dressed. To get up or to reach for anything with that arm. Then the 3rd stage is where it's not such a constant pain. it takes another 6 months to go completely. It really is painful. I was hospitalized last week with it but told to use morphine... which I have anyway... every 2 hours but it does'nt really help. I use heat alot. You need to rest as much as possible until you can stand the pain enough to do daily things again. Sorry if you do have this because it really is painful. Good luck.

I'm sorry. I was hoping it wasn't. Do you have painkillers at home if not you need to see your doc. I was lucky the twice I had it before because I had a full time carer but now only part time. I'm finding it hard. It must be hard trying to continue a normal life with this condition. I'm here if you want to shout and moan. You need to do things at a slow pace. Take care.

Hi Macberts

I am so genuinely sorry to read this and I sincerely hope that your Naproxen work for you. Some of the others have mentioned a condition called ''Costochondritis'' and I have this. It feels like somebody is breaking your ribs! (Although I did break two ribs nearly a month ago but that is a different story!) My doctor gave me Nefopam for my Costochondritis and they do help me a great deal.

I want to sincerely wish you all the best of luck, and please take care of yourself.

All my hopes and dreams for you

Ken

i dont have the rib pains you all describe. i get achy but not that kind of pain. what i do get is like a cramp between the ribs. its really painful when it hits me. i have to try and stretch to get rid of it, sometimes it lasts hours. its usually set off when i laugh or turn my body and wham. i can only liken it to the kind of cramp you get in the legs and feet. but its much much worse more intense cramping and much more painful. its very weird like me lol i dont know if anyone else gets that type of thing. i have to really be careful when i laugh and it usually turns into aaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggggghhhhhhhhh lol but im being serious it really hurts

Poor you!! Fibro really is a pain X hope your having a good day X

Hi Macberts , I've had this on and off for about 10 years I always felt like I've been squashed and squeezed normally after being in bed, and even breathing in would be painful whenever I mentioned this to a doctor they didn't seem to know why, my symptoms usually went after 2/3 days but I would never now when another episode would come along. Now I know it is a painful symptom of fibro. A hot bath, Wheat bags or warm water bottle used to help me. Hope this passes quickly for you if continues go back to the docs. Sending all my love xxx Kelly xxx
