Hi there

You will need to ring your energy supplier and ask them whether they give Winter Fuel Allowances.

Some energy suppliers will let people who are on certain benefits claim for some help towards their fuel bills.

Not all energy suppliers take part and most companies need you to claim before a certain date.

The best thing to do is call your Customer Services of your energy supplier. They should be able to help you.

Wishing you much peace

I contacted my supplier and asked if the had any help for the disabled and they sent out a form you fill in and if you qualify they award you £140 towards your winter bill they take application in July so they should be sending them out soon

Good luck

I'm with British gas and when I tried to claim this a few months ago discovered it was discontinued. Hopefully you are with someone else who still runs it. :-)

Hi

British gas online said it was discontinued because the 5 year limit was up. It was to do with their funding. I'll check to see if it's started again.

Hi

I would wait till the end of July as that's normally when it starts E ON have a form on line to register interest.

All suppliers are different SSE tell me they are waiting to hear from Government to see if its going to be continued.

I thought last year was the forth year but apparently looking today if was the last year .

Depends on government funding

Hi

Its warm front discount

At present for 2016 /2017 claims have not yet started however keep a eye on your energy's supplier Web page as applications normally start the end on June .

Some have a form to complete and some do it over the phone.

You have to be on certain benefits and application name needs to be the same as on bill.

I spoke to SSE last week and they informed me they are waiting to see if government are doing it this year.

I understood it was a five year scheme and this year will be the 5th year.

So as far as I am concerned should be able to apply .

The warm home discount is useful but I find it does very little to keep me warm all the time. I have an 'industrial strength' sleeping bag on my chair in the sitting room. That along with a grain warmer or hotty keeps me warm without heating!! There is also a small electric heat pad available - I have one, it has 5 settings and while sitting it is very comforting. I have a 2 bed semi and my overall heating bill for gas & elec is no more than £700 a year. Get thermals - gents are best, woolly jumpers and keep moving regularly. There is no need to be cold - adjust your usage, save money and keep warm too. If you need more detailed tips I will supply.

I've had a reply from British/Scottish Gas:

"I confirm that registration for Warm Home discount scheme 2015 has ended on 4 January 2016 but the Government have confirmed that the Warm Home Discount scheme will continue for another five years but we will not know the details of the new scheme yet. As soon as this information is available, we will post it on British Gas website. I advise you to check British Gas website regularly for updates or you can contact us again in autumn."

try TURN TO US charity website . phone them or email them but have a look at all the charities there is a search engine you just put your info into

some charities do give you a yearly amount of money to improve your quality of life and they sometimes add in a heating allowance so well worth appling .
