Shoulder Pain

I've had Fibromyalgia and ankylosing spondylitis for coming 7 years now, but this is as bad as it's ever been! I've now developed crippling shoulder pain in both shoulders the left being the worse, I'm waiting to get injections into both, no amount of painkillers helps with the pain, anyone else experience this and if so how are you handling this? I really hate having this illness has changed my life for the worse 😟😟

  • Sorry to hear you're in so much pain. Can't help I'm afraid as my shoulders are ok, unlike just about every other joint in my body lol. When my neck gets bad (degenerative disc) it spreads across my shoulders I find some way to support my head, usually by leaning back on the couch with a cushion nest. I wear a heated neck pad too. Only problem is I tend to drift off and the next thing I know a couple of hours has gone by lol. I hope someone comes up with a helpful reply soon and you get some relief 🐸

  • Hi. My GP referred me to a physio, as like you both shoulders hurt but my left was the worst.  Physio said I had impingement syndrome where the shoulder blade is impinging on the shoulder joint. He gave me a series of exercises to do and it has helped enormously. Not completely gone but the pain is reduced and I can move it better. When I get lazy and don't do them it comes back.

    Hope that helps. :-)

  • Hi there

I am sorry to hear you are suffering.

As StillSearching has said, I'd definitely recommend that you ask your GP for a referral to see a physio. Some areas have physios that specialise in Fibromyalgia patients.

It might be a long wait, so the sooner you ask for a referral the better.

    Good luck

Wishing you less pain and more peace

  • my shoulders hurt my left one  more so than the right.  I think mine is caused by the way I hold myself due to my neck hurting, I have disc degeneration.  I've had the injections and unfortunatley they haven't helped me.  I am going to try reflexology next, but have to  build up to it because I hate my feet being touched and I don't like feet at all.

  • Hi Snappy1 thanks for your reply I'm not holding out much for the injections working either, I've had reflexology, physio, hydrotherapy, massage among a few things to no avail, other than cutting it off lol, don't know what I'm going to do!

  • you'll do what we all do grin and bear it, it's awful but we've got everyone on here, who know what we're going through.

  • Have you tried a chiropractor?   Last year I had a terrible flare up,of shoulder pain  nothing would help the pain I went to a physio at the hospital but didn't do anything for me, so saw a chiropractor privately, she said it was my 'trapeze.? muscle I only went a few times and touch wood I've not had any trouble since, I still get neck and shoulder pain but not like it was, it's worth a try, good luck

  • Hi think I'll make an appointment with a Chiropractor and see if they can help me, no harm in trying, thanks for the suggestion!

  • Sorry the pain is so bad.I have bursitis in my shoulders but meds help.Good luck.   Peck 🌹

  • Hi Shaz1972

I am so genuinely sorry to read this and I want to sincerely wish you all the best of luck. It is not something that I have suffered with myself. Please take care of yourself.

All my hopes and dreams for you

  • I have had severe pain in my left shoulder for the last 2 months. I tried many conventional and natural remedies. But the actual results came in when I took the physiotherapy treatment( dynamicphysiotherapy.ca/ser... ) which was referred to me by my GP. It can be hard as initially I would cry due to the pain. Take the pain medication, therapy and it will improve.
