Severe Shoulder Pain!!

Hi hope everyone is fine this lovely morning? I wrote in a few months back about shoulder pain. Unfortunately my shoulder pain has worsened and I am in so much pain it is unbearable! I'm waiting to have both my shoulders injected but somehow I don't think it's going to help me! I'm no longer able to get a nights sleep with the pain or I can't even touch any area around my shoulder, down the side of my arm or front of my chest as its complete agony! Honestly I feel like going asleep and staying that way!

Go for the injections they really are helpful to me. While you're waiting try a hot water bottle or a cold flannel. Please don't give up.

Thank you I'm glad you have found the injections helpful as I wasn't hearing good reports about them and I think that was getting me down more, I'm still going to get them in just waiting on the next clinic being arranged in 3rd on the list, I also have an appt this Monday to try accupuncture to see if it helps so fingers crossed x

Word of warning my arm was worse for 24 hours but relef after that was great.

Afraid acupuncture made me worse, but that is because I react very badly to injections, acupressure was much better. Although a friend loved how much acupuncture helped.

Hi Nurse Gladys again (open all hours) I too have acupuncture to various areas for OA. not tried it for shoulder pain because its a long process and the steroid injection is quicker relief but have both if its offered.

Hi there

I know how you feel and it's not easy to cope. I have to use Volterol gel every day and night. I also have to go through the pain of gentle massage too. I have not been told of injections, so will be interested in how you get on with them?

Hang on in there and good luck.

Thanks I have tried Volterol Gel among other types of gel to no avail, I've also had massage and reflexology which worked for a time but the pain seems to just be getting worse. I've booked to try accupuncture on Monday so am hoping I get some relief from that! The injections are cortisone to be done by my GP at his next clinic which hopefully will be very soon!

Good luck.

Hi there

I was just wondering whether you've tried physio?

The exercises I have been given are helping a bit. I also use Deep Freeze spray and gel. Between those and my meds I am feeling a small improvement.

How are you feeling now?

Wishing you less pain and more peace.

Lu x

So sorry to read the pain is worse. Do hope that the injections prove successful as I can understand your distress as until you have pain in them you don't realise that you actually move your shoulders to do more or less everything. Hope the ppt comes soon.x

Never been offered injections and acupuncture made me worse. Physio said it was impingement syndrome, where the shoulder blade was trapped against the shoulder joint. Is that a possibility? Physio helped me enormously. Has anything been diagnosed in your shoulder? You need to know if anything can be identified. I found a strong vo codamol too the edge off, just a little, and as long as I didn't move it in certain ways!

I wish you pain free days and nights soon. :-)

Hi Shazza 1972 I have the same,I was told it was nerve pain but it turned out to be torn shoulder cuffs,on both sides, my left been more painfull it was actually the smaller tear,I had the injections, worked first time great, second time only for a couple of weeks,I have finally got a date for surgery,(this july)it's keyhole so better than the old way eh! II've had several lots of steroid injections for feet shoulder's etc, only once or twice were they not successful, they didn't hurt

Sorry Shazza, I must have knocked the submit button,on the above post accidentally I wanted to say, don't worry steroid injections are not much different to ordinary one's,but the ones under ultra sound are great,I use Dihydrocodeine, my doctor recomended,(didn't really beleive him the pain is soooooo bad)but he was right, the last 3 weeks I've slept much better, seems no end to it I know, but now I don't mind waiting, but 3 weeks ago I was really on the limit of pain I could take, best of luck.

Hi thanks for that, I think there's a lot more going on than shoulder impingement as what they diagnosed as the pain is indescribable! I've been taking dihydricodiene but they don't do much for the pain to be honest, I've appt to see doc on Monday week am going to plead to get MRI scan to see what really is going on x

Awe I feel for you Shaz, I've been like it many times with my shoulders. My hips also give me pain like this. I have had injections in my thigh many times & they do help. They always say the injection is a bit painful but when you can't lift your foot up off the floor to walk you tend not to care and I never found them that painful.

Dressing & undressing is a real problem when shoulders like that, just one is bad enough but if both yours hurt it must be a nightmare.

I hope you soon get some relief & get injections. As already mentioned , hot water bottle, cold compres, Movilat gel or similar, I run the hot shower on mine if I'm in pain, this helps a bit.

Luv Jan x

Hi Shaz - I can't remember if this is what I said to you before but this sounds like what I had - ie. rotator cuff problem caused by calcific tendonitis. Do have the steroid injections. They worked wonders for me - the relief was incredible. It did hurt badly for the first 24 hours, but was amazing after that. Do have the injections - there's no need to suffer like this.

Hi Shazz, thanks for replying,I also took the Dihydrocodeine,+supadol+amitriptolene +cbd oil+ duloxetin, honest I was in a right state,as I said before I had the injections great but when it got so bad as I was taking all of the above,in between I had celulites, and some shocking virus,so I think I was battling against all different things, but eventually my doctor said don't mix all of these just take what you normally take of a day, the duloxetine etc is ok but only take 2 Dihydrocodeine 3 times a day,I thought well that won't do alot, because I have never really rated it,well blow me down I was so shocked and that's all I have used since,I still take the nerve pain stuff amitriptolene&duloxetine, but no other pain killers,no one was more surprised than me and I've had this getting worse and worse for about two years, it may be worth a try Shazz, any way best of luck whatever you decide,Angela.

Hello Shaz Nurse Gladys Emanuel (open all hours) I too have lots of shoulder pain. I had a CT scan and it was NOT fibro but calcium crystal disease..Deposits of calcium overloading themselves on my bones and muscles and YES by god they do hurt! What to do? I have had a couple of cortisone injections into the bone area of my shoulders and it has relieved it for a while. I am told it might right itself and it might not! So I will keep having the pain injections relief because I feel I have enough to cope with being a fibro sufferer OA suffer and recently osteopaenic. The cortisone is a mild dose and wont affect your bone structure in the short term (they didn,t tell me long term). Go to doc and ask for your shoulders to be scanned for other things besides fibro.too much is labelled fibro when it actually isn,t

Thank you for the helpful info I want to get my shoulders scanned as I believe it's something other than the Fibro affecting them x
