Restless legs

I was wondering if any fibros out there get painful restless legs and if so have you any tips for me . Last night I was desperate with pain had no sleep until 6-30 this morning and was up again at 9-00 so I could sleep tonight , I must admit I'm very tired . Thank goodness I had to stop work because of health because I could not have worked today .

I am sure other members if they are around will come up with some good tips. I know several people take medication for this. I know when I first started my GP tested me for iron deficiency as he said in some people that can be a cause but mine was fine. I have found that if I lie on my back putting a soft cool pillow underneath my legs helps or between my knees if I lie on my side. I know magnesium oil spray has helped some but I tend to lightly massage my legs with a combination of some pain killing gel and some freeze gel. I don't know why but the coolness of the freeze gel seems to work enough just to get them to settle down. I also get up and do some gentle stretches and listen to music as I used to lie there thinking about it and found soothing music seemed to help.

Do hope that you can find something that helps as it is a horrible feeling.x

My gp also thought it was iron deficiency but tests were ok but I did take iron tablets and they seems to stop might be coincidence x

Thank you

I have heard it can be due to iron deficiency and I do have problems with that .Last night I took some tablets that I take for trigeminal neuralgia I took them every four hours it did the trick .

Hi Matrix

Epsom salt bath before bed helps me but it is fitting it into a routine that is the hard thing! Jax

Hi thanks for replying I have some of that in the bathroom so if the tablets stop working I will give it a go . Thanks Jax

Hi Matrix

I am so genuinely sorry to read that you are suffering and struggling with RLS, and I sincerely hope that you can find some resolution and relief to this issue. I get this problem on occasion but not frequently. The only thing that I have personally found that works for me is to elevate my legs. I have an electric adjustable bed and I raise the lower half of the bed and it takes the sensation away.

I want to genuinely and sincerely wish you all the best of luck.

All my hopes and dreams for you

Ken that sounds like heaven and a easy solution,I do not have that sort of bed though but there are other ways I could raise my legs I suppose .Thanks for your support

Sharon, bless you I know just how you feel . Please take the antidepressants , my doc just put me on them it's about four weeks and if I didn't have this pain everywhere I think I would feel better , I have more motivation and I have stopped crying . Well I nearly cried the other night when legs were so painful. In the main they don't understand I have one friend and my husband who have both Sen me at my worst . They don't see the drugs you have to take just to have an outing . Kids don't understand , but I think you have to have it to truly understand. You rest up now and take things easy and go and get the antidepressants they will help you . X I'm here if you need to offload anytime xx

Hi Matrix.

As if sleep wasn't difficult enough! My GP has given me Amitriptyline, but I don't find it works. What does work for me is cold shower on my legs and feet, or putting them under the cold tap in the bath. This works for me every time, though sometimes the thought of getting out of a warm bed to do it isn't great. If you are like me though I can feel it coming on before I ever get to bed and do it then.

Hope you find something that helps x

Matrix profile image
Matrix in reply toAnnieblue

I take that too for sleep ,it dosent work now ,well I'm hurting with it now I will go give it a go whilst I'm home alone .xI have had no natural sleep since I was 11-12 years old and I'm so tired I could cry some days but usually I manage to be an upbeat person ,I don't know how but I do .If only fibro was one thing but it's not is it .Thanks for your reply .

See you Dr, 20 years with this problem I finally was prescribed Clonazepam after a sleep study 20 years ago. Wow, 40 years since the problem first reared it's ugly head :-P

Good luck.

if none of the above helps, you might ask your dr. about reglan. worked great for me. i know how you feel about asking to take yet another medication. i take about the same number of meds that you do. i've gotten to the point that if they can help me they are worth taking. it is not fun to have restless legs on top of all the other illnesses many of us have. you need sleep and if have restless legs that just isn't going to happen. best of luck.
