The suggestion is that it is a good idea as the flu will very likely hit a fibro sufferer more severely than someone without so although it is not offered as a matter of course it might be a good idea to have it; you may have to pay for it but it is under a tenner and I know Tesco pharmacy are doing it so I am sure most of the other pharmacies will be offering it. I have had it for the last few years, as I work for the NHS and we have to have it if we come into contact with patients, and I know I was initially skeptical about it but I haven't had any adverse reactions to it so will continue to have it. It is, I think, a personal decision but I guess you just have to decide whether you want to risk having a really bad bout of flu and all that that will entail with fibro.
Hope this helps. Hugs, Steph
They will often give it to you free if you are a carer or gave a chronic health condition. Having just started to recover from the flu but still very below par nearly 4 weeks after getting it I would second that fibro and flu are very uneasy partners!
Unfortunately there is something in the flu jab that dies not suit me and the only time I had it my arm swelled and went back but it was the only year I had no respiratory infections at all (bliss) and would have it again without hesitation if it suited me.
Yes Boots, Tesco I think Lloyd's are all offering at a very cheap price. Study had shown that women are best having the jab in an afternoon and men in the morning. Found that out when I went to an Age Well Conference run by Birmingham University something about women and men's metabolism being different. Well that is not the only difference but won't go there. Good luck with getting one.x
Hi I had one yesterday am 53 I have probably SLE ,sjorgrens and fibro etc etc am on immune suppressants. I had one last year as well . They wouldn't have given me one if it wasn't for my drugs .
I get one ever year along with phenomenon jab
just had mine.
I asked that question yesterday at my doctors, when I was picking up yet another prescription for tramadol, which can't be sent through to my pharmacy any more because it's now classified!! Arrgghhhhh. Sorry, I digress!
I think it depends on your local NHS Trust. Fibro is on my medical records so I assume that's the info they go off? That being the case, I was told I was not eligible.
Apologies for the ramble, cocktail of pills starting to settle in!
I have one every year due to my asthma and COPD, and I have only once ever suffered any side effects. I want to genuinely wish you all the best of luck if you decide to go ahead and have one.
All my hopes and dreams for you
Ken
if you're vulnerable, and I think fibromites are, then go for it. Even if you have to pay.
It's 60% effective which doesn't mean if you get the flu it will be less severe, it only provides immunity for 60% of the population. Given how bad a flare and flu is, it's worth it. Overall there is benefit but it's impossible to say for whom.
I have one every year due to asthma, but my surgery will give out flu jabs to anyone who asks. Our local pharmacy also had a free flu jab offer last year as well. Go and ask. The nurse who gave me mine told me that she would give them to everyone if she had the chance, but not everyone wants one. I think flu is a serious illness - it's not just a cold and then that's it and for us with fibro it can really bring on a flare. Hope you get sorted.
If you got fibro you can have the flu jab its not 65 its 60 I'v just had mine done I beloeve there is not any age limmit anyway Even youg kids haveit done xx
