I hope all are aswell as you can be? I just wondered if anybody has attended an 8 day pain management course/ group session? It is something I have been offered and wondered if anybody could tell me what happens and if they felt benifits from it?
Kindest regards

I was supposed to attend but my pain is not under control by any stretch. The pain nurse that I see stated that the pain needs to be more under control.
Unfortunately I can't give you much information. I know some people have found it helpful. Please let us know how you get on.
I sincerely hope that you are feeling as well as you possibly can be today? I have not personally attended one but I wanted to genuinely wish you all the best of luck with yours if you decide to pursue this.
The course I was offered was called. Pain management. i attended with hope pinned to my chest that indeed management would manage it plain away, once I got over the disappointment that this in my dreams, and adjusted my expectations I found the course very helpful. There was an on going exercise session, that was tailored to the individual, it was such a relief as I had tried so hard with the various physio approachs and failed. I'm still doing some of the stuff 2 years on. The staff had a good understanding of chronic pain and helped me get my head around it. Things on offer were talks on goal setting medication the mechanics of pain hydro therapy relaxation, pacing and that serene state of acceptance. Plus I met some lovely people who understood. It was tiring but worth it.
I am newly diagnosed after wrongly being treated for osteoarthritis for 7 years. By the research I've done on the internet I can trace my symptoms back to my late twenties (I'm now 54), so I've put up with a lot of pain and anguish for nearly 28 years!
I'm on week three of a six week (one morning a week) "Energy for Life Rehabilitation Course" at my local hospital and I have found it useful so far. It has provided me with coping strategies and has given me a greater understanding of the condition and my own symptoms. I got the course by attending the pain clinic - who were also able to recommend medications for my GP to prescribe. They have much more time than the GP has to listen to your particular symptoms and go through the choices that are available.
If your consultant hasn't made referrals for you to access these services, your GP should be able to make the referral for you - I requested it myself as I'm still waiting for my second appt with the consultant - been cancelled three times so far!
Give the course a go, you might just find something that helps relieve your symptoms,
