Just a update on my previous post about going to pain management meeting. Went on Friday and it was a group first introduction to see if you feel this is for you. I felt really good about it and have signed up to do a 12 week course which will hopefully help me to deal with the pain. The only downside was that there was one person there that slightly took over the meeting. I hope that the person is not on the same time as me. Don't get me wrong i understand we all have a story of our journey with pain but this person didn't really give other people chance to put our situation across. Hope you are all doing the best you can at the moment.

Pain management course

Hopefully third b.p was up just a little that day ,I'm sure they'll of went home a realized they know nothing of anyone else's story because they never talked cause never got the chance lol and maybe even try to talk less, well, with any luck that is.so was that in hospital then?pain management was in our local community centre but I had someone the same lol and she never changed even though her pain was triple decades .she butted in with everyone. I stopped going because I wasn't getting to vent myself and nor was anyone.as you know sometimes partners of the I'll are at those to and they really need to vent and understand, hence why third there.I hope it improves for you.you sound like your really looking forward to it?,is it a certain amount of time?
It is up to the people who run the course to moderate responses. Have a word with them when the course starts if someone/same
person continues to dominate, but pain management staff on course should really moderate! Is this the pain management course at Cleveland Street?
Sounds like that's what happens all the time had the same experience but the loudest was also the most negative spoiled the session for everyone. I signed up for the 12 week course in January and my first appointment is Mid-august still an assessment to see if it's suitable for me the assessment is a one to one with a pain psychologist and a pain physiotherapist we'll see what happens from there.
I've got a place on a 4 week pain management course at St Thomas's in London, it's 2 half days a week. Unfortunately my place isn't till October, but I'm really hoping it will be helpful. I do hope yours helps you & this person doesn't continue to dominate.
I’ve been to one in Leeds. the person who runs the group advised me not to bother as the group was full of moaning Minnie’s! The cheek anyway it was a waste of time for me after that
I thought it was a different pain management where they sort your meds out or give injections investigations ect

Pain management departments differ from one area to the other.... But it seems to be that the preferred treatment route for anyone with chronic pain, not just fibromyalgia, is to attend a pain management course.
Unfortunately for us, research seems to indicate that strong painkillers are not efficient at dealing with chronic pain however I think we need to be offered more of an alternative than simply attending a course xxd
Hi 12 weeks is a long course Paige 1999! Is that for 2hrs plus a time then?
If there are other people with Fibro on your sessions it could be interesting!
Let the forum know when it starts and do you get transport laid on or are you subject to either car parking charges, public transport or Taxis to get there and back.
Gentle hugs
Hi skit
It's 2.5 hours a week for the 12 weeks. I don't know if there are going to be anyone else with fibro. As i said the wasn't much chance to get a word in on the first group meeting. I'm hoping it will be better on the actual course. No travel provided so have to pay for parking or go on a bus. The bus journey from my house to the hospital takes between 45 mins to an hour so I think I will drive. Will keep you all informed it goes.
