I get them too. Unfortunately, although quinine works for me, I cannot tolerate it.

I have quinine for emergencies, when the cramp is really bad. I dont take them all the time because they make my tinnitus worse. I hope they work well for you.

I have the same trouble, I now take Quinine in liquid form, G & T!! Much better.

I tend to get them when I have had a busy day. with more walking than usual. Trouble is I get them flipping every where. if it is a muscle, I get cramp in it.

With putting the tent up yesterday, sorting the camping gear A quick trip to Towsure. then Sainsburys and because It wasnt a full shop I left my chair at home. It meant a hot bath afer Dr Who to stop the spasms every time i streatched slightly

I still have them this morning but not so bad.

Must start getting into the habit of taking my trusty Steed every where.

Yes, sometimes my leg goes into a terrible spasm and I literally have to bite my fist to not cry out, they're not frequent, and I have never mentioned them to a doctor but wanted you to know you're not alone.

Hi shopaholic

I am so sorry to read that you are experiencing such horrid leg cramps, and I genuinely hope that you can find some resolution and relief to this issue. I do not have full leg cramps, I just get it in my feet and toes but it is rather painful and unpleasant.

I want to wish you all the best of luck with this.

All my hopes and dreams for you

Get them as well. i wondered if it was because I was not having enough salt as i cook from scratch and do not add salt. i have started to add a little to my diet. The only thing that helps in an attack is to push down heavily on a hard surface.

Im always getting told off for useing too much salt!!! So i doubt if its that...but we r all different.....these cramps are sooooo bad the pushing down just doesnt stop it....thankyou for your reply...hugs xxx

Hi Betty it doesnt work when the spasm is at the back of your knee and thigh, There is no was that your leg will support your weight, I have to deliberatly relax my leg. not easy when you are in agony.

Oh and I never found a way to stand on my back. shoulder blades and ribs. :P :P

Hi Sue, Talking about standing on bits that you normally do not stand on how about a laugh or a smile at someone else's expense.

My OH has a bad back so he bought an inversion table you strap your ankles and then turn yourself up side down. he found it quite helpful but one afternoon when he was on his own decided to use it but did not check he was the last one to use it. OH is just under 6ft and younger child at the time was about 5ft and so the table was not right for him and swung upside down easily enough but getting the right was another matter. he was stuck for over an hour. Good point it gave his core muscles (six pack) a great work out. hehe.

My silly begger once locked himself in the drying cabinet at the flats where we lived. He had to wait until I got back from the shops to let him out

He was playing hide and seek with the kids. :P

Just started back on Quinine after a night mare night with cramps. It was the first time in a couple of years that the pain has reduced me to tears

Serves me right for over doing it and trying to act healthy.

A day of rest and a good soak in the bath later, I hope will help.

Hope that helps. Agree pace pace and then some more pacing!

My arms still not strong enough to get out of a bath even though pain levels are much reduced I suppose being in active for so long has weaken the muscles. Been reading great things about soaking in Epsom salts.

in reply toBetty67

Getting in and out of the bath is painful but worth it. I couldnt do it without the bath handles though.

My friend suffered for years with the most excruiating leg and foot cramps and they got so bad at one point that she actually twice passed out with the pain. Strangely enough about 18 months back she was at last diagnosed with Coeliac disease and put on a gluten free diet and hasn't had evern a suggestion of a cramp since. She was also told she was actually lacking in salt and to put a pinch of salt on her food. Hope you can find something that helps as I am told the pain is terriblex

The cheapest and one of the best ways of helping leg cramps is drinking water. Those of us that have Lymphoedema should drink lots of water, you might be tempted to think the opposite. Drinking more water is important because lymph fluid has high protein content. To remove the protein from your tissues, it needs water. Drinking water means that "protein-traffic" moves better around the lymph system. I find when I drink water the pains in my legs and feet improve greatly. I now use it as an indicator of when I am dehydrated.
