I came on my period around lunch time and now I'm so much pain with my knees I don't know what to do. Can hardly walk. Taken diclofenac and steroid tablets with no effect. I'm going crazy with the pain. Any ideas????

HELP IN AGONY!!!
Hi Dolly I know that it is different for everyone but I find applying hot/cold wheatbags help. Even a hot wet flannel can sometimes just take the edge of. Good luck x
Hello dolly84
I really feel for you trying to think of anything that may help
If it's me I would take 1g paracetamol, rub arnica on my knees, and must for me is hot water bottle or hot pack lavender & wheat thingy . I have in the past rung 111 or talked to my mum till feel bit better sounds like you need way more than I'm suggesting so I hope you know I'm thinking of you and remember just get through each hour and tommorrow is another day and fingers crossed you may be better !! Xx
Hey squeak. I think your suggestions are good. Anything palliative will help. I forgot in my own reply to consider lavender as well as chamomile in poultices as well as teas. For me, just inhaling lavender reduces stress and probably works as an anti-inflammatory and analgesic. Herbs can be amazing. I have "Back to Eden" among other books and there are so many old-fashioned remedies in the book. I have a torn meniscus and the pain can be unbearable. I love to sit cross-legged and it sucks when I have to absorb the apin afterwards. Stretching out my knee and raising it above heart level also helps. The best to you. I hope your rheumatologist can help you. RA is often a part of this syndrome. We really can't rule out anything until we rule it out.
I will feel better when I'm getting treatment. Atm. Waiting on tests to rule out RA...it's taking forever and I'm at a loss of what to do
Sorry my advice won't do much good. I think if your waiting for referal all you can do is keep putting pressure on to get tests done ASAP. Bless you hope you get some relief soon xx

Mornin Dolly Did your Knees ease uo a bit? I do hope so it is really nasty! If you are dtill in trouble this morning as it is Sunday get to you local A&E . Good luck xgins
Here are my thoughts. Menstrual pain can be diminished by moist heat aplications, salt poultices (maybe with herbal tea compounds like chamomile added) to draw out some of the swelling, which is one of the adverse effects of our periods. You might even try ice applications to cool/numb some of the pain. Good old aspirin is a really good anti-inflammatory. Years ago, I would take Mydol with good effects; it worked better than just aspirin. There are analgesic compounds you could apply to the abdominal area that might help. I love hot tubs and moist heat myself.
Consider stretching, stress relief, yoga, meditation, prayer, things that can take your mind off the pain, and help the body to circulate the blood better, reducing the inflammation. The swelling is what makes for the terrible tightness and part of the cramping. Anything you can do to effectively take your mind off the pain is beneficial. Music, funny movies, laughing, talking about it to an empathetic friend. And you came to the right place. That's why we're here. You can talk among us and get lots of support. Here's a cup of chamomile tea to your recovery!
Ordered some hot/cold gel packs off eBay. I ended up with ice on my knees which was a lovely relief but it melted so a bit of a fail haha. Been taking diclofenac all day and it's helped a little. Was excruciating this morning but did ease off. It's so depressing waiting for a proper diagnosis, until then I have to grin and bear it to an extent as I have no treatment options.
I am sorry to hear about the icing. Well, it too is only temporary but at least it's right at hand. Have you tried a knee support? I use them and that holding the ligaments and tendons in place helps -- until the pressure gets too much. I guess that's because your body swells a bit as the day goes on (especially as you get older or if a woman is menstruating).
I also suggest that you get one of the moist heat wraps; they are filled with seeds or flowers, etc. They retain heat for a long time, especially if you wrap/cover them with a fluffy towel. When I use one on my back at night, just the cover of my body keeps it warm longer.
Whatever you do, I sure hope you get some relief soon.
