Hi Shadows-walker

I sincerely hope that you are feeling more like your usual self now? I am so sorry to read that you have been experiencing this as it sounds thoroughly unpleasant!

I can totally relate to what you are saying, as just recently I have been experiencing dizziness due to my breathing. I have brittle asthma and COPD. So I am undergoing test at the moment to see what's causing this. I have also been suffering with bouts of memory loss and confusion that my GP thinks are medication induced.

I genuinely hope that you can find some resolution and relief to this problem.

All my hopes and dreams for you

Thanks ken yes I feel better this morning it was a bit disconcerting yesterday morning ,perhaps I picked up a bug ,when I went to the surgery the day before , every symptom seems to magnify itself thiese days, you end up thinking is this another thing I am going to have to learn to live with , I deliberately stayed away from internet when I first became unwell as I did not wont to know anything didn't won't to turn into a hypercondriac ,but as the longer this goes on ,the advise I have been given on the healthunlocked sites is read ,learn ,and ask .if this posits is a bit erratic it's because I keep being mugged by a rather feisty beagle called Murphy and a lab called shadow anyway thanks for replying it means a lot especially as in term time I live alone . Hi

I regularly get up in the morning and fall back onto the bed with the room spinning, its very frightening, Dr said it was vertigo not sure why ot how as it happens without warning, seems to happen when my neck is stiff. Gentle hugs xxxx

I have had periods of vertigo when my neck has stiffened up and others when it starts for no reason. Osteopathy has helped a lot. My balance isn't that great anyway because I had a stroke. I have tablets to take if it happens and find a neck support pillow makes a big difference. But if this is happening first thing in the morning it could be for all sorts of reasons so best to consult your GP if it goes on.

Hi Christina,

I'm sorry you are suffering with this at the moment. Just wondering if you have changed/increased any medication recently? Sometimes that can cause dizziness. Also another thing that can cause dizziness when going from laying to sitting or sitting to standing is called postural hypotension. It is a problem with blood pressure dropping. You should probably discuss your problem with GP.

I hope u feel better soon!

Gentle hugs

hi there, i know the feeling i go through the same many times a week. i have little balance most of the time and walk into things often. i reported this to my GP who has sent me to see ENT specialist. i have had problems with my ears since i was 6 years old, i have a constant perfaration i my ear drum. the doctor at the hospital suspects that i have Meniers so i am having a balance test nest week i have already had MRI scan. to have this on top of waiting to see Rheumatologist to see if it is Fibro is setting me into a spin at the moment. the pain never goes away.

i would make appointment with your doctor regarding the dizziness he may be able to prescribe you some medication to help.

hope to see you around in the form. sending you gental hugs.

And again thanks for the hugs this is such a friendly site it's lovely I had got to the point that my 2 children and a couple of close friend and my dogs are the only ones who understand ,my children live away so I only see them at Xmas and Easter and the one is going to japan in august and I won't see her for a year then .and I talk to her everyday .chris x

Thanks I feel lot better today and yes I was put on duloxtine 6 weeks ago and it was doubled 3 weeks ago I see the rummie on the 4th of June so will disscuse with him then , I do feel like I am turning into a hypercondriac I have ignored a lot of odd things all my life and I had a chat with a different GP in my practice 8 weeks ago and he told me off gently for putting up with things I had lupus anti bodies in my bloods last august but the rummie is insistent that I don't have lupus so who am I to argue I usually end up in tears when I try ,which is reduculas I think that's down to pure frustration , Chris ps thanks for the hugs don't get many of those :-) x

Hi Shadow,

I have been suffering with dizziness since before FM diagnoses. Lots of things can cause it, and if it continues insist on referal to ENT, and even better, balance clinic. A very common cause can be trigger points and or attendentt muscle tightening and shortening. Google balnce issues and trigger points...will reap loads of stuff. We are notoriously compensating with our postures for pain as well as stressed all the time which will effect muscles and fascia right around head/neck/shoulder area and down through body. Trigger point massage, stretching and thinking about posture...esp using pcs etc really helps. I expect someone has mentioned but elimate POTS too. triggerpoints.net/symptoms-...

Thanks for advise much appreciated I think what threw me was the fact a was asleep and the cat was waking me up by doing his usual of placing is paws on my eyelids and as I became conches the room was spinning and I really felt like I was spinning ,but also what I hadn't put in the mix was my neck which aches constantly now and shoulders on and off , I don't mean to be completely dull but what is POTS ,I will go and take a look at the link you have given me to thanks .chris

postural orthostatic hypotension, which is common to fibro but it is usually on standing up suddenly and blood pressure drops instead of rises. I like the sound of your pusscat :)

Another cause of vertigo (vertigo is described for rapid spinning as oposed to imbalance - generally feeling like a slow spin...lots of differnt sensations/descriptions) which is very common is, Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV). Which was my first experience of spinning. Sounds like Sue's below. But if you are getting yours on waking up, it could be to do with neck issues, interrupts the balances signals. If continues on rising or lying down, or turning head quickly to the side, then suspect BPPV.

Thanks , your very informed . Eddie is a grumpy ginger tom ,who purrs like a fool at 2 am in the morning as soon as he thinks I might be stirring he's their ,which if I am honest is lovely, but he's become very vocal in his old age ,but he is having to contend with a crazy beagle who is equally vocal, and a lab called shadow ,who thinks he's Houdini and also a cat in anther life ,had to hire fences by 2ft as he can scale 5 ft fence from sitting and having to ring my neighbours bell at midnight to ask if I can have my dog back is funny once but could become a bit of a bother ,it's a bit different to asking for my ball back ,it cost me a bottle of wine as an appologie :-) they do make me laugh and I am never alone ,thanks for replies Chris x

Sounds like vertigo. I suffer with that, the first time was sooooo scary!! It even made me vomit!! I spent 3 days in bed!!! The GP gave me some tablets, which weren't that good, but it passed eventually. My optician said it could be due to the fact my eyes are misaligned!! XX

Sue, have you been referred?

sue32 profile image

Referred to where? I haven't been referred to anyone or anywhere! :(

helbell profile image

Sue it could be anumber of causes for extreme spinning with vomiting. Has your GP explained what might be the cause. The usual route is if it does not go away within a few weeks, referal to ENT and neurologist as standard , and preferably a balnce clinic because they have all the testing kit to rule out cuases like infection and Menieres. I think it is is your interst o find out whethewr it is just BPPV (Google it) or something more. Bppv in itself is mighty unplaeseant I have had itr a few times but then I developed a chronic imblance. No one know if the two are connected. Balance disorfer is another one of those hidden diseases. If your doc thinks it's benign, you should at least be doing Vestibular Rehab excercises and coming of the anti-dizzy meds. What meds are you on? This is an excellent site for all things vestibular google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j...

My mother has had this - benign positional vertigo, with dizziness and vomiting. It's now receded with age. She took Sercs for hers.

Hi Shadows, I do get this from time to time, sometimes for no apparent reason or at least I fail to see a pattern. Sometimes it's been hormones, other times, fatigue, stress, a virus or medication. It also may be an ear problem or vertigo (or blood pressure as has been suggested). When it happens it's very frightening. It feels just as if I'm drunk as you say (though not been like that for years!), the room spins, even with my eyes closed and I'm unable to even turn my head. It is awful because I often need to wee so getting up to go to the loo is a nightmare. What I have learned to do is move my head up very very slowly, until I'm in a sitting position, no sudden jerky movements, and that helps, even though I have to hold on to something or someone.

Sounds like your is BPPV too Kirby. It's common for it to recurr. I was taking sercs for mine but came off when I discovered it's better to do manouvres and or VRT. I control for myself just the same as yourself, with v slow moves up and down. I had it for five months solid.

Kirby profile image
Kirby in reply tohelbell

Yes, reading about it, hellbell, I think it probably is, BPPV, especially as my mum gets it. As she vomited with her I thought mine wasn't that but reading about it suggests you don't have to be sick to have it.

helbell profile image
helbell in reply toKirby

Gp's don't know much about it, ENT not much bteer unless you get a really good one. Balance clinic is the best as they have all the testing equipement and dealing specifially with balance issues. The ENT i saw said vestibular disorders can be a bitch to diagnose, and sometimes they just don't know. But he was lovely and good enough to refer me to balance clinic which my GP would not have done. In the gemral liter\ature they rarely tell you that BPPV can keep coming back, nor that vestibular rehab is crusical sooner rather than later. It is a minefield as fibro and hypothyroid can effect balance, as well as trigger points...erm....I just find it strange that I started with BPPV which then moved into permanent imbalance. Could be coincidence, there was so much happening at once including muscular tension.

Interesting, because agoraphobia is characterised by dizziness and lack of balance and this predates my fibro diagnosis by years. But back in the 90s even then there was a lot of research into the physical causes of agoraphobia, including the inner ear and balance problems. I have always maintained that a lot of these things have physical origins.

Blimey, I didn't know about the agoraphobia connection.
