extra Cyclogest?

hi ladies sorry I’ve had to open a new chat to ask a new question but regarding Cyclogest again! I actually start this medication so , and I’m just ensuring I’ve got everything right, but there is one extra question I wanted to ask.. probably a very silly question…

I am scheduled to take x2 Cyclogest a day and Lubion injection x1 a day. I am worried what is my progesterone still isn’t enough this round.. so was wondering if anyone know if there’s any harm in taking an extra Cyclogest now and again? Say for example after my FET or certain days if I wanted to pop an extra one in (I’m doing vaginally)…

again it may be a very silly question. I guess I’m just being paranoid and I just want to ensure I have enough this time around.

would appreciate any advice xx

I’m so sorry to hear this and hope you’re okay. I wouldn’t worry as bleeding can occur when implantation happens too! What day of your 2ww are you on xx

Hi, before doing that. I would test your progesterone levels. If your clinic doesn’t test, you could pay for a private test?

Hi my clinic doesn’t test. I have looked at private tests but now I’m thinking maybe no point at the clinic have me on the highest dose of progesterone this time around so surely it can’t be low? Xx

Yes, it sounds like you’re already on a high dose but not every woman is the same! I’m on 2x cyclogest only (no lubion) and that worked for me, but I’ve read posts on here where others took 3x cyclogest + lubion, so it really depends. Clinics should really test, though!

Have you had your FET already or are you prepping for it?

Hi lovely my FET is end of this week. So yeah just preparing for it best I can. It’s crazy how I was told 2 Cyclogest and 1 Lubion is the highest dose of progesterone yet some have had 3 Cyclogest plus Lubion (as you said). I agree clinics should really test! Xx

I don’t think there’s any harm in it as I think any extra your body discards. But would pay privately to check your progesterone levels if I’m honest. For my first 3 transfers (all failed I was on 2 x cyclogest and lubion. For my 4th successful transfer (13 weeks pregnant now) I did 3 x cyclogest and 1 x prontogest a day. X

you shouldn’t really mess with the levels through the days- whatever you take should be consistent as progesterone levels ‘dropping’ is a signal to the body that a pregnancy wasn’t achieved that month so if you take extra one day randomly and then not the next few then that could give your body mixed signals. It’s okay to up your progesterone levels and then sustain them before or during the 2WW but not really fluctuate them is my understanding. What your are on should be enough though and exactly the amount I was on to achieve my current pregnancy. But if you have any reason to think it isn’t you can talk to your clinic about upping your dose, your body absorbs what it needs to and you are getting the hormone in 2 different forms as well so you should be able to achieve the right level with your current dose. Good luck! xx

Thank you so much that’s very helpful! Xxx and makes complete sense to not give the body mixed messages. I’ve just been hearing of women on 3 Cyclogest and 1 Lubion hence why I been wondering if I should just take 3… probably good to mention that a few years ago I was tested and told my progesterone levels are quite low naturally - this was through a blood test xx

Hi, I am on the same dosage as you, and when I had some spotting between 5 and 6 weeks, the Dr said 'there's no harm taking an extra cyclogest for a few days'. Not very scientific, as similar to you, my clinic doesn't test levels, but based on this limited experience, it seemed like - according to him at least - there was no risk taking a bit more. He did also refer to the current dosage as 'very good' (i.e. that I was already on plenty), so I think he really only said I could take a bit extra to make me feel better when I was asking if there was anything I could do to alleviate the spotting. I did take extra for 5 or so days, then went back to original dose, and while I'm still very early days, things looked well at my 8 week scan. Hope that helps 🩷

Hi lovely firstly congratulations on your pregnancy and I’m so happy everything looked well at your 8 week scan! That’s wonderful news! What you said makes complete sense.. i suppose I could always pop an extra Cyclogest in if I experienced bleeding.. last IVF round I had bleeding but I was only on 1 Cyclogest a day then (can’t remember it could have been 2 but I think 1!) xx

Cyclogest absorbs quicker rectally. I was on 3 cyclogest a day and 2 lubion a day for 10 weeks.

I'm on 3 a day so don't think it would cause damage but I would ask the clinic you are under. Good luck.

Ah yeah I may just ask them but I know they will tell me to stick to 2… the worry for me is my progesterone was quite low a couple years ago when I had a blood test (at the very very start of my fertility checks) so I’m just worried after one failed transfer and me thinking progesterone was low, that maybe I should do an extra this time around to be safe then sorry.. so for me that would be 3 Cyclogest and x1 Lubion injection x not sure if it’s safe to do so!

Hi, for my first transfer I didn’t (possibly stupidly) realise the importance of progesterone. On that cycle I had levels checked the day before transfer. Results back on the day of transfer prompted my clinic to administer one Lubion injection but I continued on 2 Cyclogest a day after that, no more injections. That transfer failed. For my second transfer I was on the same dose of Cyclogest with no injections added that also failed. My clinic never recommended further progesterone checks after the initial one done day before transfers. After 2nd failed transfer I done immunology testing and they recommended immunology meds together with an added Lubion injection x1 daily. On this third transfer my clinic done progesterone check again day before transfer and it was 58 nmol/L. Since transfer (5dpt today) my infusion nurse recommended me to add a third Cyclogest until I get progesterone rechecked ( she drew blood yesterday and I am waiting on the results). She explained that levels can drop after transfer and it is no harm to add an extra Cyclogest to be on the safe side as the body will pee out any extra. From my experience my clinic (abroad) does not seem to place much emphasis on checking progesterone levels but my infusion nurse says it is vital to have it checked in the first few weeks. I have also found from experience that I needed a lot of progesterone support in terms of 2 Cyclogest and 1 Lubion injection to get my progesterone at the correct level prior to transfer. I wonder if low progesterone was a contributing factor to my failed transfers. At this stage I would rather be safe than sorry. I woulda Ely levels checked and then you will have a rationale for your clinic to increase it if need be. Wish you the best of luck.x
