Cyclogest - 3 times a day?

Hi all - just having my first round of IVF and had my egg collection today; 8 mature eggs which isn’t a bad number I don’t think. As I’m waiting to hear whether any fertilised, they’ve told me to start taking the cyclogest 400mg pessaries 3 times a day. This sounded like a lot to me at the time, and now I’ve done a bit of internet research I see most people say it should be twice a day? Even the cyclogest packet says ‘recommended dose twice a day’? Has anyone else been told 3x a day, is it normal? Just wondering if I should ask them at the clinic.. also not looking forward to the sheer amount of pessaries I’ll be using!

I was on 2 x cyclogest + 3 lubion so definitely not unusual. Also a tip if I may as you say it’s your first cycle, for ease and less mess I would recommend using cyclogest through the ‘back door’ that way you don’t have to lie down and less risk of getting thrush etc, good luck xx

Yes I have read that the back passage is the way to go, although it does fill me with dread! I've put my first one in the 'correct' door, but I'm going to try the others today the other way! x

It feels weird at first then becomes second nature. A tip I was given when doing it for the first time was to lie on my side and insert it, clench your cheeks, it then sort of swallows it up. Good luck x

I am cyclogest x 4 / day + utrogestan , so more!

Hi! I had 2x400 cyclogest twice per day plus crinone gel mid day due to the blood tests showing my progesterone was on the low side. Everyone absorbs it differently and from what my clinic explained, more progesterone is better! Very best of luck!

mine is 2x Cyclogest plus Prontogest every three days, don’t worry this is fine 👌😊

X3 seems like a good idea. Myself and another lady who I met on the day of egg collection both got 7 eggs from retrieval and subsequently had our fresh transfers on the same day 30 minutes apart. During our 2WW the lady told me to use 3 pessaries and to take magnesium in addition to the other supplements. I was only advised by the nurse to insert 2 vaginally as it was a little better than in the rectum. I stuck with 2. Before I inserted a new pessary I ensured to wash the outside in the shower every morning and night to avoid any old residue being pushed up as I read a lot of stories about people getting thrush. My flora remained healthy. I also didn’t take magnesium separately alongside my other supplements as I was full of faith. These 2 differences along with the fact the lady had 2 embryo transfers and I had one, resulted in her getting her BFP last Sunday (tested 3 days early). I tried to stick it out and done my test this Tuesday gone (we were both supposed to wait until Wednesday) and I got a BFN. Devastated is an understatement.

Prepare your uterus with the progesterone and magnesium will keep your uterus relaxed. All the best.

Urgh I'm so sorry for your bad news, and what a crappy time of year to get it - I'll be thinking of you all day, my heart goes out to you. I myself am dreading the call I'm due today, telling me if any of my 8 eggs fertilised, part of me thinks it'll be bad news..

I'm going to try mixing it up, so 1 a day 'normal' passage, then 2 'back' passage for the pessaries, if the call goes well. I've not been told anything about magnesium, but looking it up I can see it makes a massive difference! Should I go and get magnesium tablets? Or should it just be in my food, so eating spinach and almonds every day? I'm also going to be doing the pineapple thing by eating the core etc. x

Thank you so much, that is so kind ❤️

8 eggs is fantastic and stay positive! You will reach fertilisation, it’s just waiting to hear how many.

Yep, magnesium seems to be very good and successful. I have already purchased it so that I can prepare my body in preparation for the next cycle. She also told me to take vitamin c, in case you don’t eat a lot of fruits. I’m doing it all because it can’t hurt, can only help right? So if you’ve done the research already I would try it. I ate really clean, had cooked salmon, vegetables, switched to brown pasta and rice, lots of avocado, blueberries, one or 2 brazil nuts per day, walnuts, almonds, beetroot juice (good for blood flow), 100% pomegranate juice (antioxidant) and water. Added warm water to everything to keep uterus warm and drank ginger tea. Also wore socks to keep feet warm. The lady who got the BFP drank peppermint tea, ate brazil buts and also sent me pics of her food which was very similar to mine. Eating healthy and clean is important along with supplements and body movement. I only took folic acid and vitamin D 1000 but she took 2000 vitamin D as we lack sun in the UK which makes sense. Even though I went for walks in the afternoon, she recommended going in the morning to get the fresh oxygen into your body. In hindsight all makes sense and im sharing all of this because it is what I will do next time around to optimise chances even further. I asked her what she done snd she very kindly told me everything she done daily, timing of different supplements i.e which ones were best to take on empty stomach, during the day and at night along with pictures of everything and her food. The lady was always on Tik Tok, doing a lot of research etc which is how she learned about x3 pessaries and magnesium.

When it comes to the pessaries, if you do 3… it should be one in the morning, afternoon then night time. Perhaps you can do the PM one rectally so you can get on with your day. What I do know is that the uterus loves progesterone and I’m sad I didn’t give this a try.

I done the McDonald’s fries (fries only) after transfer and also brought the core of a pineapple along with me and sucked on that in the car journey back home to extract the bromelain. Please look up how to use the core correctly, I have since read it should be for 5 days after transfer. Again, I was too afraid to try it for so long. Someone else blended the core into a warm tea (with hot water) and got a BFP. I need to look at how to do this properly in preparation for the next one. I’m also preparing my body with supplements for 3 months so that it is high in everything Vitamin D, CoQ10, conception tablets, magnesium, everything so that my body knows a pregnancy is coming! Otherwise there shouldn’t be any other reason, i’m under 35.

Do all you can within reasonable limits. Things has changed so much with the production of our food and the way we cook it, so topping up with supplements for absorption is essential. Will be thinking of you. Let us know how you get on xx

Hi! Please can I ask what strength magnesium you bought? I’m about to have my meeting for my 2nd cycle after a failed cycle 2weeks ago. I didn’t take any magnesium and really want to try anything I can to help! Xxx

Morning, the lady who it was successful for bought 500mg high absorbency and took it at night. One tablet per day. I will be starting all my new supplements from tomorrow for 3 months now that AF is coming to an end xx

Ohh and I forgot to say… God willing you get to day 5 blastocyst and them subsequent transfer… from that day you are deemed as 2 weeks and 5 days pregnant. Keep a positive mind and tell yourself you are pregnant until proven otherwise!

I doubted myself but all those who remained positive got a BFP!

MultiMagpie profile image
MultiMagpie in reply toFaithful23

I had the call and 6 eggs fertilised - hoping that's a good number. Now the dreaded wait to see if any get to blastocyst, I'll know Wednesday morning and if I get any, I have 1 implanted Wednesday afternoon. I'm going down the 'slightly more magnesium in my diet' route, rather than supplements, so having an avocado every day, a banana for breakfast etc. and eating a bit healthier. My clinic said I shouldn't change my diet so differently immediately, so I'm just doing what I can. Will be doing the pineapple and mcdonald's fries haha!

I was on 3x 400mg Cyclogest a day. That ended in a chemical. My last cycle I was again on 3x 400mg Cyclogest a day plus 1x 25mg Lubion injection. So yes, 3x 400mg can be normal. All the best.

MultiMagpie profile image
MultiMagpie in reply toShadow-monkey

Thank you - what week did you discover it was a chemical pregnancy? So you got the results two weeks after implantation that you were pregnant, were you told at the 6 week scan it was chemical, or did you find that out before this scan? I'm sorry you went through that, it's a huge worry of mine getting the BFP, only for it to be stolen from me with a chemical pregnancy. I hope only good things in your future

Thank you. I found out at the 7 week scan. The line had been very faint but I only tested on the OTD, and the clinic said a positive is a positive. There was nothing to see on the scan. I'd had no bleeding either. All the best for your journey.

I don't know if it's the tablets I'm taking or the pesseries but my skin is really itchy.

I was told to take 3 pessaries as well. Any of you know if it's best to take 1 every 8 hour or whether i should take 1 in the morning and 2 in the evening (12 hours apart)?

MultiMagpie profile image
MultiMagpie in reply toIrida

Gosh no to the 2 in the evening; the whole point of 3 is to ensure you have a steady and constant level of progesterone, so you should always space them out evenly. It’s a pain but I took one at 7am, 3pm and 11pm for near on 4 months because I had to take them til I was 12 weeks pregnant too, I just got used to it. Was a joy to stop 😂
