Hysteroscopy & delayed FET

Hi Ladies,

Ive been prepping for my FET this cycle but the provera tablets I was taking from day 21 failed to prevent my period 😭 now I’ve come in for a scan on day 2 of my now period and the doctor has said that my hysteroscopy would have to be delayed this coming Monday. My hysteroscopy is at another hospital (referred by my GP earlier this year). I’m now in a dilemma as the clinic have stated it’s one or the other. As my uterine lining is already shedding they said I couldn’t the hysteroscopy AND transfer this same cycle. I’m just thinking out loud and thinking it’s fine I will just wait another 6-8 weeks for my next cycle for the FET which now may be in March.

How long does it usually take to recover from hysteroscopy? I won’t be sedated and just assumed it would just be a camera investigating but not actually affecting anything if nothing is found.

Thanks x

In case it's helpful... I had a hysteroscopy (with general anaesthetic) in 2nd December. Got my period on the 7th. My clinic baseline scan after ovulation in the cycle before treatment starts, so I had this on 23rd December, started down reg then and will FET in a couple of weeks.

So 7 weeks(ish) from hysteroscopy to likely date of transfer. It could've been sooner, if my periods were sooner. I guess it also depends on your individual protocol.

My clinic were very happy for me to go ahead. Said it would not make any difference to FET.

I know other endometrial biopsies and injuries (scratches etc) can improve implantation rates, so I'm choosing to believe it will be helpful.

But, I guess timing could.also be influenced by what they're looking for and what they find, and whether and treatment is needed for it.

Hi lovely, thank you for your reply this is helpful and gives me an idea of timelines. It’s gotten to a point (3rd cycle) where I actually don’t know why I’m taking certain medications anymore. I have been just going with the flow and following instructions. I’m not sure what the point of me taking provera was for if my period has still come at the date it usually does and endometrium is thin like they wanted? If everything is fine with hysteroscopy I’m hoping I’m not having to repeat that step of waiting to day 21 to take provera again as it doesn’t work at controlling my cycle lol. It honestly feels like a never ending story and so many obstacles every year during this fertility journey. May you have the strength and see a positive outcome for your FET 💕 my fingers and toes are crossed for you. I’ll be waiting in vain again 😭but still happy to go through with my hysteroscopy so that all bases are covered to have peace of mind following 2 failed transfers if anything or nothing is wrong in there.

Hi, I had my hysteroscopy with no pain relief on 31/10 and had my natural FET on 7/12. I started the process on day 1 of my November period so hopefully you can go fairly quickly. Good luck x

Hi Kerry,

Thank you for your reply x I just spoke with the nurse today and she did give me a rough estimate so looks like my FET will be a minimum of 2 months from the procedure all being well and nothing needs removing. May I ask, did you just take paracetamol before the procedure? X I must look for the leaflet on what was recommended. Hoping it doesn’t hurt too much 😟

I did and my procedure was delayed so it wore off. I was told it feels like mild cramping. It doesn’t! I suffer quite severe period cramps and this was far worse. Even the nurse and my acupuncturist agreed. I would have opted for sedation but my consultant who was male talked me out of it x

Oh my gosh 😰I’m so sorry you were in pain. Ok slightly worried now as I opted for non sedation as the waiting time for the procedure was less than sedated. I think I’ll have to take paracetamol AND ibuprofen as they’ve suggested in that case. Thank you for being transparent x

I have seen some people that don’t find the procedure that bad but I think that all depends on your cervix and womb. It is over fairly quickly and I had a nurse hold my hand through it. I am currently pregnant now (don’t know if it’s purely down to the procedure) so in perspective I would completely do it again if this was the result x
