Bad Diarrhoea & Gas

I’m sorry if this post sounds quite rank, but I just wondered if anyone else is experiencing this.

For the last 4 days I have been getting stomach cramps, and my stomach has been doing a lot of churning noises, which lead to really really bad gas and diarrhoea! It’s been 4 days in a row now, at night time I get the cramps and wake needing to go to the toilet multiple times.

I am nearly 7 weeks pregnant and taking progesterone twice a day, which I know can cause bloating and gas.

I’m not sure if it’s something to do with that or or something I’ve eaten (I don’t feel ill though)

has anyone else experienced this? I don’t know whether to reach out to my doctor as it doesn’t seem to be going away?

Thanks

I would contact your GP if not going away. I had diarrhoea for 5 days during the 2ww and turned out I had food poisoning after being tested. Important to keep hydrated and I was told to take diarlyte to replace minerals lost.

I did think it's the 4th day now I should maybe contact my GP. It's making me scared to eat, in case it runs right through me. I do also suffer with IBS and read online being pregnant could trigger IBS a lot worse than usual with certain foods. Hoping it hasn't affected my pregnancy in anyway. I will also get some of the diarlyte you mentioned. Thank you for your advice x

I was fine, I was really scared as my HCG didn’t double in 4 days and thought it had affected my pregnancy but was fine. Won’t do you any harm to contact GP and they can also give you advice about eating. Also if you have a midwife yet, they can give you advice too.

I really hope everything is fine for you but for me with similar symptoms at 7+1 when I was scanned at 7+4 it turned out the heartbeat had stopped. Growth stopping coincided with when I had the cramps/toilet problems. Hopefully yours is just IBS though and your dr will be able to help.

Oh that's awful to read, I'm so sorry.

Can I ask, did you get constant cramps? Mine only seems to be at night time, while sleeping, then into the morning. When I'm at work in the day time, although my belly doesn't feel 100%, I don't have any cramps/toilet problems - just starts in the evenings. xx

Mine only lasted about 24 hours then stopped and I felt fine again, no bleeding. If anything I didn’t notice overnight when I was asleep. But it came and went rather than being constant and hurt more in certain positions like moving from standing to sitting.

I had the same pretty bad when I started new meds. I'm currently on 3 progesterone vaginal pessaries per day, 2x estradiol twice a day & 1x lubion injection on an evening after transfer from 12th. It's not quite diarrhoea now thankfully but do get wind and also get stomach cramps most likely from all the hormone meds. It wakes me up early hours too & feels like it literally empties my body.

Well I’m pleased to say I am fully recovered from my diarrhoea now. I went to a chemist who advised I take charcoal tablets, it’s done the trick! I also had my 7 week scan few days ago and all is good, so just relieved it hasn’t affected the baby x

Hello, It seems like estrogen and progesterone that we take during IVF are hormones that can cause higher cholesterol levels and delay gallbladder emptying. That can cause bad cramps and vomiting! It's different for every woman !I had really bad cramps 5 days after embryo transfer and 2 weeks after again! Unfortunately IVF didn't work with us, and now I'm trying to understand if the bad cramps was linked to my gallbladder.

Contact your GP or go to early pregnancy unit and get checked ❤️
