Metformin.... OMG!

Has anyone been on Metformin and had hellish diahorrea and stomach cramps! I was ok on 2 tablets a day now moved up to 3 and body seems to be rejecting everything I’m eating. Then there’s the sickness and loss of appetite.... really getting me down 😞

Anyone else suffered on this? Wondering if it’s worth me just sticking to 2 a day?

I was on it and had no side effects. They did warn me about diarrhoea and stomach cramps but they said it wouldn’t last long and to try and stick it out. Not always possible I know if it’s awful xx

It can cause that unfortunately, some people find the modified release version better. The side effects will improve as your body gets used to it xx

I had it for a little while but my body seemed to adjust all of a sudden. I also used a different brand once one pack run out and I was completely fine. It might be worth seeing if you can swap the brand? Fingers crossed it will ease for you soon x

I had the exact same thing happen but they moved me onto prolonged release ones they were so much better xxx

I had the same thing with mine when I first started but now I take mine mid meal and that has made a massive difference!

I’ve been on metformin for about 8 months and I’ve never had stomach ache and diahhrea like it in my life. My ivf consultant thinks 4 tablets a day is far too much so now I’m only taking 2 for my pcos.

I’ve rang my consultant today and said I’m ramping down to 2 a day for now 🤕

Yes I had this initially. It does settle after a while and it helps if you eat and healthy. I found greasy and sugary foods made it worse. I also went on to the slow release version and I take two tablets before bed and sleep through the worst of it seemingly. It will get better, don’t worry x

Hi I m on matformin as well 3 a day I don’t have any side effects yet this is my 3rd week I m ok soo far apart from I feel blotted sometimes..

Hi , I've just been diagnosed type 2 and take 2 metformin a day , I've had horrendous diarrhoea, nausea extreme gas it's been 4 months it's not as often as first 3 months but still troublesome at least once a week , I've got my blood test this week coming so am going to speak to nurse about side effects still happening , so I sympathize with you ,I hope you have got yours sorted now ?
