hi ladies

Those of you who have taken this medication above in the subject line did you take it rectally or vaginally? I start taking this from Sunday twice a day plus the Lubion injection. The last time I had my fresh embryo transfer I was taking Cyclogest rectally, but this time I’m wondering if it’ll absorb better taking it vaginally as I’m reading mixed reviews online. Would love to hear from you, ladies as to your opinions or experiences tysm xx

Hi Hun, I'm also on 2x cyclogest. My clinic advice me to alternate rectally and vaginally. So I take it rectally in the morning (no mess in underwear before leaving for work), and in the evening I pop it vaginally.l and use a panty liner. Checked my progesterone levels last time yesterday and I'm adsorbing well. What did they told you to do tho?

Hi, excuse my ignorance. Just wondering how did you check progesterone levels please?

Blood test at the clinic. Is part of the plan ahead of a transfer:)

Ok I see. Thanks so much for your reply. Not sure at what point my clinic checked my progesterone level . I’m sure they must’ve done 😊 but definitely not after my egg retrieval. I started taking cyclogest 2 days after the egg retrieval.

my clinic advised me to take it Cyclogest rectally and I also use prontogest.

My clinic monitors progesterone levels every other day after transfer and adjust the dosage of Cyclogest and prontogest when necessary

Hi, my clinic in Spain advised to use them vaginally because they say it is absorbed slightly better, however, my previous clinic in the UK had told me to do it rectally but only because it was “less messy”.

The clinic in Spain tested my progesterone levels in the morning of my transfer and they were perfect. I was told to put another pessary back in after the transfer because they clean the area just before putting the embryo in and my levels could drop before the next dose. I got a BFP so I continue to use them vaginally.

Best of luck!!!

if your taking to? I’d do one each, rectal in the morning and vaginally before bed so nothing seeps out! I have 3 a day! Certainly causes a mess!

Hey lovely were you also on Lubion injection? I have been scheduled for 2x Cyclogest and 1x Lubion injection a day xx

I took it vaginally until 10 weeks, then because it was causing irritation, I started taking it rectally which was a lot less messy and stopped the irritation ❤️

Vaginally every time, clinic said if you can do it that way and not causing any issues then that’s best although rectally is fine too if not xx

I think both ways absorb just fine as they are designed to be inserted in either. I just mixed it up depending on whether I had time to lay down for half hour whilst it absorbed as it seeps out vaginally. Usually it would be rectally in the morning and vaginally in the evening. Went rectally for both at one point due to irritation but then I got irritated in that area! I hated Cyclogest!!

Morning Pizzax. My clinic advised that I could do both. But I always took it vaginally although a bit more messy because rectally caused me constipation! Best of luck with your cycle 💪🏻💪🏻

Morning yes you just reminded me that last time I was taking it rectally I had very bad constipation too! They say don’t go for at least an hour after inserting it rectally but I know there was times I had to go! When you gotta go, you gotta go! Lol did it work out for you vaginally then? Did you have a positive test too?

Hi, yes, it worked well with me! Currently 28w pregnant 🤗🥰 I used to lay down for 20-30 m after inserting it, morning and evening. They explained to me that it should absorb quickly, and any loss after 20-30 min is more the "cover" - what is needed should absorb in the first 10 min. Best of luck x x

I changed to taking this rectally as it was irritating my cervix vaginally and causing it to bleed which was then unnecessary worry i definitely didn’t need.

Was a lot less messy rectally too

I have been doing vaginally as per my clinic’s recommendation, and it’s been fine. I started before the transfer and now I am pregnant, still doing it vaginally twice a day.

I have done it vaginally the whole time except the morning of transfer. I just don't like the idea of putting my finger up my bum hahahaha that's the only reason for that choice. But my clinic said you can do either so I believe it doesn't matter and it's personal choice x

I take it vaginally and when I had my levels checked before transfer they'd gone up to 85 after 5 days of taking it x

I tried it rectally on my first round and didn’t find it worked that well as I didn’t retain it that well and was more comfortable using it vaginally on my next rounds. Good luck whatever you decide x

my clinic told me I can do it either way, but to be careful of taking it vaginally too much as it can cause thrush. I take it rectally in the morning and vaginally at night when I have more time to lie down. I also take lubion once a day at night. I bought a bunch of latex finger cots from amazon which helps me do the rectal way in particular. I only had my progesterone taken at my transfer so I am not sure how it is absorbing since then, but I have had no bleeding or spotting so I am assuming it’s doing the job.

Hello and thank you for your reply! I was thinking about vaginally and rectally but I’ve just been so indecisive! I was reading vaginally the med goes straight to the uterus whereas rectally it goes into the bloodstream.. I have had my first one this morning vaginally.. just still debating if I should continue only vaginally or go rectal and keep alternating lol.. the stresses of IVF eh! I’m glad it all worked out for you xx and I hope it continues to!
