One word, progesterone. It's evil! (I assume you're taking progesterone still?)

Im taking progynova and cyclogest. Is one of them the culprit? X

Yep that'd be the cyclogest, I had it too really bad - couldn't fit into any of trousers early on in pregnancy and the bloat was just so blimmin painful unless I 'degassed'!!! (sorry). I think progynova is oestrogen, never been on that so not sure of side effects. Unfortunately I did have to put up with the gas the whole time I was on the progesterone (up to end of first trimester) but it eased off as soon as I stopped them. Hope it gets better soon xxx

Well that's a relief to know its not just me... thank u for replying. Looks like I'll have to buy the wife a gas mask for the next 6 weeks lol x

Hey Loulov, yes progesterone is the culprit as it slows down digestion, so the build up of gasses are worse, as food sits for longer in the digestive tract. It will get better in the second trimester once you stop taking the cyclogest pesssaries... but in the meantime there are a few things you could try....

I don’t know if you take Cyclogest rectally, but try switching to vaginally for a few days?

I think exercise will help to move things along and to expel gas naturally, so you could try some gentle outdoor running, or some swimming? Anything to get your body moving and to let any gas go in stealth mode 😉😎

Try to avoid foods which cause gas, as they exaggerate the affect. Cut out or cut down on bread and beans in particular.

Finally, try increasing your soluable fibre intake to help speed things along (the less time stuff sits in your digestive tract, the less gas builds up). Prune juice and Fybogel Sachets are your friend here!

Hope this helps xx

Thank u Wishfully. I use the cyclogest vaginally already. I already take Laxido sachets daily , have done for years. Im wondering whether to lower my dose. Im not sure 🤔

Thanks for all your advice, I'll look into what foods to avoid, ive already found that peppers are a killer for me lately x

🤣 yup. Definitely progesterone! I am taking you seriously but you did make me laugh this morning thank you. Images of clearing rooms with gas ha ha xx

Honestly, i don't think my marriage can last another 6 week's on this cyclogest. Ive not seen the bottom half of my wife's face for the last 2 weeks, its always covered up with her tshirt 😂😂

Hi. When I have trapped wind which can be really painful I mix up a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda in orange squash. It tastes foul but it works very quickly. It’s better than anything you can buy over the counter. My mum’s GP gave her this tip years ago and we’ve always used it ever since. Good luck. x

Hi Louisa I'd check with your gp/midwife before using this method. I heard that you're not really supposed to use bicarb when pregnant as it can cause water retention & swelling. I'm sure a glass or two wouldn't hurt but I'd say to check first before taking more often than that xx

Oh god yeah. I never thought of that. Thanku xxx

Peppermint tea either hot or cold is good for trapped wind x

I'm on the same meds as you and pregnant but no wind yet. I take cyclogest rectally and normally have a bowel movement about 2-3 hours later. Maybe switch to rectally and see if that helps.

Do you take cyclogest before bed then? I do x

I take it twice a day around 8.30am and 8.30/9 pm but I go to sleep much later.

I’ve had it all the way through. 21 weeks now. I’ve cut out fruit juice and fizzy drinks, which helps a bit, maybe try keeping a food diary and seeing if anything improves if you cut things out? Also take something if you may be constipated.
