Lining at 6.00mm

HI All,

I am doing an FET and I had my first scan after 14 days of estrogen. My lining is currently at 6mm and the clinic have said optimum is 7 but I have a lovely triple lining so they might go ahead. The clinic said they might go ahead and do a transfer as the structure of my lining looks very good but I am still nervous. They have upped my estrogen dosage for the next few days to see if it gets any thicker by Friday. The clinic also said the reason my lining is at 6mm may be due to genetics or my slight frame so it could be 'normal' for me.

Any other experiences or any success stories with a FET at 6mm or just over?

TIA, Tara :)

Hi,

Not a success story I'm afraid but just wanted to say that I'm with you.

My lining has never gotten above 6.8mm and tried various things, patches, natural transfers, Castor oil packs, pomegranate juice etc etc. It's always nicely triple layered & my clinic go ahead. I keep getting told the same that because I'm only 5 feet tall & at the very lower end of the healthy bmi range that it's normal for me & doesn't mean I can't get pregnant.....yet I've never been pregnant 🤔

After 5 failed transfers it does make you start to wonder but failure could be for any number of reasons. If we are being told the same thing though there must be something to it!!

I really wish you all the best for Friday!

Hey, I’m in a very similar position lining is just 6mm on day 15. Let me know how you get on Friday. I’m back in on Monday but worried they might cancel the cycle.

Sorry to hear you're in the same boat. I know first hand how deflating it is having transfers cancelled because of thin lining. It's especially infuriating when it seems to be out of our control, it doesn't seem to matter what I do. I often wonder if it's long term use of the contraceptive pill that has caused it for me but I'll never know.

I had a few cancelled cycles but now my clinic seem to just go ahead which also makes me wonder if thickness isn't that important now then why was it when cycles were cancelled!! I know my clinic definitely think I've gotten to hung up on thicknesses and they're probably right.

I had a fresh transfer on Monday of a top grade embryo (never had one before always been good or average quality) so I'm hoping that makes a difference this time. During the procedure I asked how my lining was looking & my doctor just replied "good." Then followed it up with "we're not measuring it" 😂 fair enough they know me too well now.

It’s really tough as you go into each cycle with so much hope. Funny you mention the contraceptive pill, I’m also convinced this is the culprit as I was on it for 10 years. My periods have been so light since stopping a couple of years ago. Best of luck with your fresh transfer! Sounds like you’ve been through a really rough ride.

I definitely think the pill has some role to play in it. I was on it for 15 years & my periods are also so light & short now. I wish there had been more education about the potential risks.

Thanks, you too! I really have everything crossed for you for Monday. A lot can happen between now and then. Sending lots of lining thickening vibes your way 😀

Thank you for all the advice! Yes my clinic told me that they are getting less hung on the thickness of the lining and apparantly the structure of the lining seems to be more important. But then again its likely a game of embryo, timing and a slash of luck! wishing you all the best with your fresh transfer - I have fingers crossed for you! x

Just a wee update my lining was at 6.3mm yesterday and the clinic are happy to go ahead with FET next Thursday 🎉 they said everything else looks super good, and the structure of my lining looks brilliant so it hypothetically should be able to hold a pregnancy no problem. I'm trusting they know what they are at! Even during stims for egg retrieval my lining only got to 6.8mm. I've started taking pomegranate juice daily and l-arginine 1000mg x 3 a day. So hopefully this should at least sustain the lining until transfer. Best of luck to you and also would love to know what the clinic says to you 💕

Hi, I went back in yesterday my lining is at 6.5mm but now has some fluid in it which they think is from all the estrogen. I’ve got to go back on Friday to see if it’s gone and if it has they will transfer Saturday. Feeling very nervous as it feels like another hurdle, but trying to stay positive and trust the doctors know what they’re doing. Best of luck for your transfer!!

Oh there's always something isn't there. Keeping everything crossed for you. I had fluid one time which by the time I went back had gone. I think the nurse also said they could possibly aspirated it if need be. Hope it all goes to plan for you!

Hi. What can I say, ours had to be 8mm but a few got let off at 7mm. If your triple lining is still ok, they will probably go ahead. Good luck. Diane

My lining was 6.7mm & my clinic cancelled my transfer even though it was trilaminar (3 layers) I was on 12mg oestrogen and maximum patches.

I ended up doing stims to thicken my lining and it worked wonders.. got my lining up to 8.5mm to transfer xx Hopefully another few days is all you need.. good luck xxx

I had a fet cancelled at 6.9mm on an unmediated cycle and had a saline scan to check there wasn’t an issue. I had HRT for 2 days to bring it up from 4.9 but it only reached 6.9mm . I was popped on a medicated cycle for the next round and my lining was worse but I was given fermaydl to stop ovulation as I have a short cycle and this helped me get up to 8.5mm . I was on vagifem and menopur and had taken letrozole .

Unfortunately my embryo did not implant I’m now thinking the pill has caused me issues as I have never got pregnant. 15 years on it wish someone had told me you can’t get pregnant every day of the month when I was younger!

I used l-arginine in all my transfers. My cycles are very light & I was always worried about it but my lining was always great which was surprising given my age and the light cycles. I genuinely believe the l-arginine helps & lots of ladies in my ivf group used it so worth a try. I’ll try and find out the dose for you but it is quite high,

TazG101 profile image
TazG101 in reply toRACMumm

Woe - l-arginine is going to be added to my supplement list! (to add to the 100 supplements I seem to be taking on the daily :) Thank you so much for the advice x

RACMumm profile image
RACMumm in reply toTazG101

So the dose is at least 6g / 6000mg per day but I am pretty sure I took two 4500mg pills a day. Its way lower than the maximum allowable dose which is I think around 30g but you don't need to take that much 🙈 If you are UK based you should be able to get 3000mg or 4500mg pills and just take two or three a day depending on the strength. Pretty sure I took 3 x 3000mg and split them through the day as I was on other medication three times daily anyway. Lots of research to back it up so fingers crossed for you. I'm sure you're already covered for your vitamin D and E already but they are important too although one you are supposed to stop just prior to transfer but I would have to check which but you probably already have that info xxx

TazG101 profile image
TazG101 in reply toRACMumm

Thank you so much for this! Yes I've been told no Vitamin E and the dose I started on is only 500mg actually so I might try and take 2 tablets x 3 a day. I'm still on estrogen 4 times a day and metformin 3x daily so what's another few pills 😅 lining grew to 6.3mm so .3mm up in only a couple of days so the clinic are very happy for me to go ahead with a transfer next week. Fingers and toes crossed!! ❤️

I am slight too and had a very thin triple lining which didn’t get beyond 6.3mm. Regardless of how much oestrogen I took, my body didn’t respond to it. I don’t know what my lining was the first time I got pregnant but it sadly resulted in a loss. The second time I got pregnant I know my lining was only around 4.8mm because I was having monitoring scans each month. I once again had a missed miscarriage. Nothing to do with the lining but age. Luckily I was blessed with a little boy when I conceived naturally the third time.

My periods were very light too and I had been on the mireana coil for nearly 15 years. The things I did differently the third time were: I was taking impryl, omega 3 and vitamin d tablets; had a biopsy the month before for the ERA test (which is similar to an endometrial scratch); was taking a vaginal probiotic - canesflour: and I had that month and a couple of months before that been priming my lining to help thicken it by taking oestrogen daily and then progesterone for the second half of the cycle and stopping around the time I should have a period. I have no idea if any or some or even of one these things worked but I thought it might be worth mentioning. I wish you best of luck and please don't despair I spent a lot of time fixated on my lining yet it didn’t hold me back. X

I had my second FET with an endometrial lining thickness of 7mm. They’ve never managed to get it any thicker on me despite tweaking the meds.

I did ask them to take an additional look a couple of days before transfer to double check they were still happy as I knew once they started me on the progesterone it would likely compact things a bit (measurement was still ok though).

I’m currently 13 weeks pregnant so if they are happy with how it looks I’d go for it.

Wishing you all the best xx

Hi! I drank a cup of pomegranate juice every day for my second FET and the lining was thicker than it was for the first, so might be worth trying. Very best of luck!

TazG101 profile image
TazG101 in reply toEloquentia

Started the pomegranate juice, hard to find organic good quality as I live in a small village so. The brand I got is the only one I could find! Only started it a few days ago so hoping my extra meds and this will keep my lining up before transfer. Thanks so much! X

I really struggled to get mine up, with extra oestrogen vaginally mine finally got to just 7mm and I am now 20 weeks pregnant. It did take an extra 6 days of meds to get it up to that.

TazG101 in reply toJenFC

Thank you so much, yes I got mine up to 6.3mm with extra estrogen and the clinic seems very happy to go ahead. Everything else looks really well, so booked for a transfer next week ❤️

I wish I had a success story but I have had 5 failed transfers. The first one was a chemical pregnancy with a lining of 7.8 mm (it was a hormone replacement cycle) and the next three transfers were either modified natural with trigger OR hormonal replacement and for whatever reason my lining never got above 7 mm even with acupuncture, supplements, exercise and improved diet. I was told that perhaps at 5 feet 2 inches tall that this lining was perhaps my "normal" and that a lining of 7 mm only decreases your chances of success "by about 10%." The fifth and last transfer that I had was a stimulated FET transfer with the best lining I ever had of 8.6 mm. This protocol may be worth discussing with your doctor - this is when you take medications as if you are preparing for an egg retrieval but with lower dose than typical to help promote growth of lining. Unfortunately I also transfered my worst untested embryo (a 6 day 3BA) which was also negative. Right now I'm seeing a specialist in autoimmune issues and preparing for one more transfer. I wish you the best!

Thank you so much! I have not had any transfers yet so I'm hoping nothing else props up if it doesn't work. Thank you so much for your reply xx

hello, another thin liner here!

Just to say that I know how you feel as I had multiple cycles cancelled due to my lining. However we just decided to go for it (I think my lining may have got to 7mm) and I had 2 successful pregnancies and have 2 little boys. I had 5 transfers in all.

I really found hypnotherapy really useful to get my mind in the right place 😊.

Wishing you all the luck xxx

Thank you so much for the reply, great outcome and so glad to hear! The clinic are happy for me to go ahead with lining of 6.3mm, everything else looks good and they don't seem concerned at all, so fingers crossed ❤️

Hello! Sorry to hear you have this problem. I’m also slight and have the same issue!

I tried everything, all the supplements, extra oestrogen, natural cycle etc. but just can’t get it thicker 🙁 I did have a hysteroscopy which found I had scar tissue but after that was removed the lining still wouldn’t thicken up.

But I do have a success story! My LB was born with a lining of 4.6mm triple lining!

Good luck to you! 🤞🏻💕 xxx

Hi there. My lining was at 6mm the day of my embryo transfer back in November.

It was successful and my baby girl is 6 weeks old today.

My clinic upped my estrogen to help my lining and I stayed on it until I was 12 weeks pregnant with no issues.

Lots of love and luck xxx
