so after 4 rounds of icsi in UK 7 transfers (one live birth from embryo nr 8) we are going to Turkye for another attempt (not being selfish but clock is ticking and i do not want to regret it later for not trying)
Things we want to do different:
- Imsi
- drop the intralipid but start prednisole after embryo transfer (hypothyroid immune and Nk issues)
Some questions going through my head are: Should we be asking for more? Maybe we can afford it as less expensive.
should i transfer two.
Not sure what i am asking but it feels more stressful this time. Can you please share what is like for going abroad or trying for a sibling?
Thanks🙂

Hi Pocahontas, what do you mean by asking for more? Maybe to ask the clinic what other treatments or options are available there and is there anything extra they’d recommend. They should also advise based on your IVF history, the quality of the embryos, and your health/age etc.. about whether to transfer two embryos. There are always lots of extra risks with multiples if they both take, especially since one could split then you have triplets. In Europe they nearly always advise one at a time is best. I went abroad, it is much cheaper but by the time I paid for the hotels, flights, food, exchange rate costs, it wasn’t quite as cheap as I hoped, but still think it was the best decision, they were very efficient and no nonsense, which I like. In the UK it felt like they just wanted money out of me and would recommend all sorts of things I don’t need. There was none of that. Best of luck xx
Hope you are well. May I ask what clinic did you go in Europe? At the moment, we are searching clinics in Europe and it’s really hard to find a really good clinic. Thank you in advance
I went to the Czech Republic, will send you the name, lots of good ones in Spain too. I did look at Turkey since I heard good things about the clinics, but I know egg donation is not legal there and I didn’t want to have to switch clinic in the event we had to go to that route (which we did in the end) xx
We went abroad for our 2nd IVF ICSI cycle after 1 failed NHS cycle in the UK.
The clinic I went to offered a part uk part Turkey cycle where they shipped our stims to us and we went on Day 8 to have a day 9 scan to check follicle growth and adjust stims meds as required. I believe this option is only give when they have previous IVF history to go off so they can decide how your body would respond to certain meds.
This next bit might be me overthinking- but I’m the UK, they struggled to scan one ovary to check for follicles before trigger and they also struggled to get into the uterus to implant. No issues at all in my clinic abroad
We had 3 5 day embryos abroad, the consultant advised transferring all 3 as only 2 were good quality and one was poor. I chose to only transfer 2 (1 good quality and the poor one as it wasn’t freezable). In my head, I thought if it fails, I have a chance to go back and try again with FET.
unfortunately it did fail and we will be going back for FET.
if I do another cycle I would transfer more than one as I personally think it’ll hopefully increase likelihood of even 1 sticking and then I can do a full new cycle if that doesn’t work.
I had a good experience abroad. The clinic answered ALL my questions in detail about medication, my personal plan, drug doses, why one and not the other etc etc. IMSI was included if the consultant decided it would be beneficial, but if not there was a small charge to pay if you wanted it And as I was also on holiday, I could wind down and make sure my body wasn’t AS stressed compared to being home going about daily life
Tha ks for sharing. Im sorry you didnt have a sticky embryo this time but i am sure you will get there (you are 10 years younger than me so im sure you will get there soon)
We might be talking about the same clinic. I m also now planning to go there and be scanned on day 9. Usually i need 10 days of stims so i hope everything plans out oke timewise.
I hope i get any enbryos. In the last 4 cycles i always had only 2. I always asked to also transfer the ones the would throw away because not good enough to freeze but in the UK they never agreed on that so good to hear you did that. I always feel that that is so hard as i see them as a living being.
i requested imsi as male factor is also significant with us but the doctor said we will see when you are here so you might be right.
We’ll get our little miracles eventually! Don’t give up hope.
One thing I would say is that they say you only need to be there 10 days, I’d advise booking a little longer if you’re able to. Thankfully I booked 12 nights, because the 5th day post fertilisation was day 11 of being in Turkey. So if I had only booked 10days there then I would’ve had to have a 4 day transfer.
