Tommy’s miscarriage testing

Hi all,

Thinking of getting my doctor to do a Tommy’s referral for my recurrent miscarriages. They don’t put much on their website about the blood tests they do to help pinpoint a problem.

Can anyone who has seen them for early recurrent loss and implantation failure give me an idea of the blood tests they’ve done for you? I think thrombophilia might be one? But what else?

I have had a load of initial tests done via the NHS before starting ivf I.e FSH, AMH, TSH, chcecking vitamin levels, checking for lupus, factor v Leiden etc. I believe I’ve also had a full blood count too but not entirely sure what that consists of.

Thanks in advance :)

So sorry for your losses. I hope you're doing OK. Does this help? tommys.org/baby-loss-suppor... could also ring the Tommy's helpline and speak to a Midwife who probably can advise you. 0800 014 7800.

I really hope you get answers and have your dream of having a baby come true. X

Thank you. It says page not found…I think they did used to list them but have taken them off. But calling them could be a good shout! Was hoping someone who had done tests with them could share their experiences too x

tommys.org/baby-loss-suppor... again with this link. I can see the page ok.

I've had a full thrombophilia screen and awaiting results- it is testing for factor v Leiden, Lupus etc which you mention was tested already so perhaps you don't need this.

ah yes that’s better, thanks.

Yeah I’ve had that, not thrombophilla though. Had a few others on that list but some I haven’t. Could be worth exploring. They seem to do thyroid but hoping they do more than just TSH as I’d wanna look into thyroid antibodies etc.

Good luck with your results, I hope you find something that can help! X

Sorry for your losses, I have unexplained recurrent miscarriages also (x5).You can self refer to Tommy's you don't need a dr to refer. I'm not sure of the blood tests but they do perform 2 endometrial biopsies for high/low NK cells which can be the reason for implantation failures and recurrent miscarriages.

Give them a call and they can talk you through your options 😊 I hope you get some answers.

Xx

As in self refer to the the London clinic? I thought it was just a referral from your GP? I've already spoken to the self referral one (well, it's linked to Tommy's) in Warwick and getting the deft tets/nk cells biospy done with Dr Brosen in a few weeks. Unless you can self refer to the main London one for standard bloods? that would be ideal as the thought of having to contact my GP makes me like urgh as they are sooo busy xx

I'm not sure about the London clinic tbh, I was referring to the Coventry one, apologies.

I terms of vaginal probiotics, I use Garden of Life probiotics, I started using them 3 months before my FET there in June. Can be found here gardenoflife.co.uk/microbio...

Thanks for the link - much appreciated!

Glad that's worked.

Thyroid antibodies' testing sounds like a good idea.

My clinic also recommended vaginal probiotics as some women can have an infection which can be treated by the probiotics. They also said nk killer cells could be worth looking into and immume testing but they don't do these tests. I decided against them based on the info on the HFEA website.

Thanks lovely x

Ahh yeah interesting. I had recent laparoscopy and hysterocopy and they took a biopsy to check for infection which came back okay but I don't think there's any harm in taking probiotics, which ones do you take?

Yeah am looking into NK cells with Dr Brosen at Warwick, he's doing a biopsy for me which is the deft test and some NK cell testing. I wasn't sure what other immune tests there were!x

Glad you didn't have an infection. I haven't started probiotics yet as waiting to see when I can have my next FET cycle. Dr mentioned canesten do some but people in this forum will be able to recommend. Hope the NK test results come back OK.

I found this page on HFEA website helpful re immune testing hfea.gov.uk/treatments/trea...

X
