Hydroxychloroquine and recurrent miscarriage

Hi guys ❤️

Iv recently just had an eptopic pregnancy where I had to have tube removed 😩 this was my 6 recurrent pregnancy loss as the previous 5 were miscarriages

The last two pregnancies I tried Cyclogest pessaries , but the hospital have now gave me Hydroxychloroquine to start now and then some blood thinning injections and steroid for when I get a positive test result .

Has anyone else had positive outcome after using these methods .. just praying these will help aid my next pregnancy as all my tests come back as good .

Any advice much appreciated ❤️

I was put on that for my donor egg transfers, my 5BB failed and my 4CB was a chemical.

I’ve also previously had 4 miscarriages (all early) and countless chemical pregnancies.

It’s definitely worth a try! I think it dampens immunes responses, however I had very extensive testing done for nk cells, cytokines, hidden infections, karyotype etc and all showed nothing, so not sure what it could have helped with.

I’m so sorry to hear how many miscarriages you have had, and now to have had an eptopic. Were all your miscarriages early?xx

Thanks so much for replying lovely ❤️ I’m so sorry you have been going through it all too ...

Mine have all been quite early 7-8 weeks. Iv had my nk cell test and all the generic testing / Hysteroscopys/ biopsy’s at hospital ... but she has given me another 6 months to try again with the help of all these medications . Iv not been offered any ivf or further treatment yet , assuming this is because I can still get pregnant , so I feel like I still have a very long journey ahead 🤦🏻‍♀️❤️ xx

Have you had a sperm dna fragmentation test? Maybe the issue isn’t lying with you? Sometimes a sperm analysis looks fine but it can cause early losses of there are high levels of damage to the sperm.

Hopefully if you have got pregnant lots of times you have really good egg reserves? Not that it makes it any less hard xxx

They haven’t checked my husbands sperm yet .. they just told him to take WellMan supplements .. I’m not sure whether this is because my first pregnancy loss was with my previous partner ..

I had bloods last Monday to check egg reserve so hoping to get results tomorrow ..

It’s all very much a waiting game isn’t it 🤦🏻‍♀️❤️

Hoping you get your miracle baby soon lovely ❤️ xx

I'd get the dna fragmentation test done first if I were you, should always check out male side before taking loads of drugs on female side that might not work if the issue is with the man! It's about £500 and sometimes called a comet test x

Also, a better supplement for male side is Impryl. Wellman is fine but impryl is superior. Do look into it

Sorry to interrupt. Is it better than proxeed for male? We have male dna frag. Issue.

No clue, my other half only ever took wellman but his results were really good. Our recurrent miscarriage specialist said if his results came back bad to take impryl. But we were lucky, all our problems were because of my nk cells and on my side , not his side x

Hello, Sorry to heat about your losses, it’s so tough to deal with. I had progesterone pessaries from day of ovulation (or day of egg collection for ivf), steroid from day of positive test result, and clexane (blood thinner) injections from day of first scan - this was around 6/7 weeks. This was the treatment plan I was given after a series of recurrent miscarriages. I did the same with both my next pregnancies and they were successful. We can never know if that was why, but I would do the same if I had another pregnancy. Good luck x

Ah thank you so much for your reply ! That’s so good to know it worked for you guys ...🥰 I think I’m just trying to find hope in anything I’m given , since the pesseries didn’t work on the last 2 pregnancies 🙈 ❤️ xxxx

My view way always that if you can get pregnant you will be able to have your baby, it was just a case of figuring out how to stay pregnant. In my head I think the steroid was the key to it, but who knows. I was nearly out of hope and think I would have given up if I’d had another miscarriage, so I’ve always thought it was the treatment. Anything is worth a shot. Wishing you all the best with it, hopefully the next one will be the one that sticks xx

Hi Holliebx, so sorry to hear about your losses and ectopic, it’s so traumatic isn’t it. Can I ask how you got Hydroxychloroquine? And who gave it to you? I’ve asked my recurrent miscarriage clinic about it but they fobbed me off. And if you don’t mind me asking, have you had any luck with it? I really hope so xx

Hello lovely . So sorry for late reply . I started taking the hydroxychloroquine for about 5 months last year until my prescription ran out . Unfortunately Iv not been able to catch pregnant this past year , so I cannot say if it works or not . I am now going to go down the ivf route and do genetic egg testing to see if maybe something is wrong on that end as everything else is just coming back unknown infertility . I will let you know if they make me take the hydroxychloroquine on this next stage .xxx

Thanks so much for getting back to me, and so sorry it’s been a disappointing year for you. I really hope the IVF goes well and you get some lovely chromosomally normal embryos 🤞🤞. It’s just so hard when there’s no answers. Loads of luck xx

I got tested for nk cells and my treatment was pretty much the same. I'm now nearly 33 weeks pregnant. Literally the only heartbeat we've ever had and that was the only time I took all the drugs I'd been prescribed. My experience is that if there are no other issues (like low amh, low sperm motility etc) then it does work. For me, nk cells was the only thing stopping my pregnancies progressing. (that and thyroid level was too high. When I conceived my level was 1).

Congratulations on your pregnancy lovely ! So glad these drugs worked for you ... I’m now heading down the ivf route with genetic egg testing to see if they find anything that end ... 🤞 xx
