Hi
Does cold uterus affect implantation after embryo transfer?
Hi Sabrina, everything I read suggested keeping the uterus warm, not with hot water bottles or hot baths though but more extra layers of clothing/warm foods/not going swimming (this would be an infection risk too)/keeping feet warm. This was something I very much stressed over when doing my IUIs (I know it's not the same as a FET) in winter to the point I was too scared to go out and really limited what I did which is not good for mental health so would say don't let it limit your life but just do what you can.
Don't off hand remember any reports or evidence of warm uterus being a must. Hopefully someone else who has had a FET can tell you if this was advice they were given by a medical professional.
Hi
Thank you for your reply 😊
Usually my transfers has been in the winter and I have cold hands, feet even with socks on and cold abdomen. This time as it’s in the summer, my hands and feet are warm, I even get burning sensation on my feet at night but abdomen still cold. Just worried that this might be one of the reasons it’s not working for me.
I did my 3 IUIs across winter Nov-Jan and this was one of my worries. When they didn't work I purposely planned it to start IVF in summer just so that this wasn't as much of a worry or that I felt I could still be out walking etc and not get cold. Re your abdomen feeling cold while the rest of you feels warm, your core temp will likely be higher than it was in winter and much more stable.
I never noticed how warm/cold that area felt before starting Fertility and think it's easy to focus on it more 😂. My feeling, and defo not a medical professional is that it's such a big area where there is constant blood flow that we don't tend to notice it whereas hands and feel send signals such as tingling when there is a limited blood supply. I read it's important to still move around as that's also good for blood flow. Good luck for future treatments
I’m the same, did not notice until I read about fertility acupuncture. I wish you all the best and fingers crossed it good news for you.
That is some eastern medicine belief. My instructions after transfer were - no direct heat to abdomen, embryo doesn’t like heat. So no heating pad, water bottles, no sauna, they suggested not to go to pool and do sunbathing for 3 days after transfer. No intense training and basically no anything that will raise your core body temperature. And to take it easy, but no bed rest. So I walked my dog and that was working out for me. I also had car crash the next day after transfer (that was scary) and felt very bad about ruining my chances about implantation but nurse reassured me that embryo was safe in my uterus. I’m 6+2 right now and waiting for my first scan in Monday. So definitely don’t stress about “warm uterus”. I even ate some ice cream because was hot few days after my embryo transfer (later I saw that that is “bad food” after transfer because makes your uterus cold but according to my doctor that’s all eastern medicine stuff, and nothing proven). I’d say go normal with your life just take it easy couple of days, try to relax and rest as much as you can and no heavy lifting (more than 15kg). Good luck 🤗
Thank you for your reply. Hope you’re ok after the crash and congratulations. Hope it all goes well 😊
