Has anybody on here had a hysteroscopy to sort out a septate uterus? Should be getting mine sorted with the wonderful team at Tommy's in London (they think I have a slight one that could be causing my issues), but she said something about putting coils in to help with the healing process for like 3 months - the call was a bit of a blur haha. I was so happy to be in their care and finally getting something done after the septate wasn't discovered by any of my other doctors over the last 5 years that I kinda glazed over the details.
I've had a hysteroscopy before so know what that entails but it was more the healing/coil part I'm intrigued about and also if anyone has had any success after removing the evil wall!

I have a septate uterus, it’s comes about 1/3 - 1/2 way down my uterine cavity. It was discovered by hysteroscopy a few years ago. Multiple doctors have said not to have it removed, as the scar tissue left behind could be extensive. Turns out they were right, as I still have my septum and I’m now pregnant. They may have argued otherwise if I was have repeated miscarriages, but I wasn’t. I think any larger and it would have been removed x
Ahh thanks for sharing your story! Glad it worked out without the removal, I think it just depends on the person doesn't it - some people have healthy babies with a septate and others have losses. Sadly I am in the latter category so hoping it will help me!! x
Hi, I had a full septum that almost came out of my cervix. I had it removed using laparoscopic guidance in September 2016 (as far as I understand this is the ‘gold standard’ method for removal). I had two coils placed for three months after the op to stop the septum re-joining. Couldn’t get pregnant at all with the septum then fell pregnant natural in months 2 and 6 after having the coils removed (sadly both ended in miscarriage). Had IVF in September 2017 and had my first son in June 2018. Then had a FET in August 2021 and my second son in May 2022. I had to have extra scans in my first pregnancy to check for cervical incompetence (which can be associated with mullerian anomalies, of which separate uterus is one), but all was fine. Only had one extra scan to check my cervix in my second pregnancy.
Having the septum removed was definitely the right choice for me. It also helped with period pain; I had horrendously painful periods before and now I don’t get any pain at all. My consultant said this was a common outcome.
Thanks for sharing your story! Yeah I think I will have the coil but done via hysteroscopy! I'm glad you were successful, via IVF, though!! When you had the coils removed did it hurt/did you have to be knocked out?
Sounds like you just needed some help with IVF in terms of the best quality eggs rather than natural x
No success story.. yet! But I did have my septum removed in April 2023. Mine was 7cm long and they managed to remove most of it, I’m left with a tiny bit at the top of my uterus as they didn’t want to cause damage to other areas.
The consultant wouldn’t even refer me for IVF until I had this operation. Sadly, we’ve had a fresh and frozen round which didn’t work and fallen pregnant naturally once which resulted in a miscarriage, so odds are there are other things which need more testing done. But am still so glad I had the operation.
Oh yeah sounds like you might need more testing but at least that is one thing sorted Fingers crossed you find something else fixable in your journey!!
Hi, no successful story yet but I had a complete septum which extended to the cervix and vagina (!). Had this removes, the uterine side in august and kept a coil in for 6 weeks. I was told I need to heal for three months following the surgery and then do another scan to confirm if the septum is less than 1 cm, in which case it is acceptable for me to start TTC. Because I'll be 38 next year we have decided to do a round of IVF and freeze embryos before the surgery and then did another round after the surgery whilst my uterus is healing. This gave us some sort of hope we are doing something to preserve our fertility while my uterus recovers. I hope it helps. Ps:my period changed massively when I had the coil, very painful and abundant flow, but first period was already better and I hope the next one is like it was before (painless and normal flow). Wishing you all the best x
