Progesterone Pessaries

I've have progesterone vaginal pessaries twice a day. On the day of embryo transfer is it ok to do this? I've seen online to do this rectally on transfer day. Has anyone been told not to do a vaginal pessary on the day of egg transfer?

Also, the instructions in the cyclosene box don't say to lay down after inserting and the nurse didn't say to lay down and wait but also seeing this online. Does anyone e know about this?

Thanks

Sorry mean Cyclogest.

Hi, as always check with your clinic. Mine advised 3 times a day for my last round with first one in the evening of egg collection. I hope this helps.I hate pessaries but it does help to lay down for around 20-30 mins. I found them to still leak but this is normal. Wear a pad to avoid ruining your undies (they do wash off but not a nice sighting).

Thank you. I wish I did sit still after as it melted straight away and a few minutes later it was all out after I got up. I must have tensed my tummy muscles when I moved.

Some prefer rectal insertion however I can't see myself doing this at all. Best to do at night and when u wake up before getting ready. Maybe get up half hour before you would normally wake up so that you can lie down.

Hi lovely. I'm also on those twice a day. My doctor had me put in two extra ones after the transfer, but ask yours what you should do.

Thank you. I'll let the staff at the clinic know know what happened.

Hi Scoobie,

The dreaded pessaries - a necessary evil. I was told by my clinic everything should be absorbed after 20 mins and to lay down after inserting to stop leakage. I get up a little earlier to do them.

I would prefer rectal but my clinic say use them vaginal (their preference) but use rectal just on embryo transfer day - less mess I think is probably the reason.

My previous clinic said I could use them what ever way I wanted as long as it was 12 hours apart.

Im sure your clinic will have their own protocol and won’t mind answering questions about them

X

Hi, i am on the utrogesten pes so not sure if it is the same but my clinic advised not to take it within 2 hours before the transfer as that way there shouldn't be much left when they transfer and if you normally take it around the time of your transfer to bring it with you and simply take it after. Hope that is of some use! X

hi , I hope you’re well. I’m on cyclogest twice a day too, my doctor advised it could be done either vaginally or rectally, and for the transfer day they asked to be rectally. They also said to lay down for 20 min after if inserted vaginally. Wear liners as there’s always loads of residual wax. Every body is different but I found vaginally is better for me, however the days i have to go to the office I have to do it the more practical way. I soon realised that messes up my stomach (bloated like a balloon and leads to constipation, sorry for oversharing). I found this one of the most awkward things in the journey , but it’s a necessary evil 😂😂.

Sending you hope and all the best of luck in your journey xx

I was told to do rectal on day of transfer only and rest of the time I have been doing vaginal, definitely lye down after as it does seep out. Good luck!
