DHEA and CoEnzyme

Hey all,

After my third BFN, me and my partner had our consultation review to discuss next steps for our final NHS funded round.

My numbers of eggs during EC have been low on both rounds and was told that my AMH is low. He recommended me taking DHEA and CoEnzyme Q10 for 10-12 weeks before proceeding with the final round as it may help with egg quality and numbers (hopefully).

As it is our final round I am willing to try anything to see if it’ll help, so I started to research and found that DHEA is hard to come by in the UK. For anyone in the UK who has taken DHEA, which one did you buy and where did you order it from? I read that the micronised version is best.

Also does anyone have any brand recommendations for CoEnzyme Q10 please? I know there is a particular version which is better for absorption but I’m not sure which one it is?

Any help/advice is highly appreciated!

Thanks x

Hi,

My consultant recommended buying DHEA from BIOVEA who ship to the uk. I havent heard of a micronised version so I can’t help with that unfortunately.

With the CoQ10 you can get it from most health places like Holland and Barrett or anywhere online but I think it’s recommended that you take Ubiquinol instead as this is the form that our body creates so it’s meant to be absorbed easier and get to work quicker.

Hope this helps! good luck on your journey xx

Hi there,

You could try Pharma Nord Bio-Quinone Active Q10 GOLD 100mg. They say you need to take about 600mg - 900mg a day. This brand isn’t cheap so the cost adds up.

For DHEA, you could ask your clinic to test your testosterone levels or go to a Randox clinic as they will do a full hormone profile blood test for around £70 (I think). If it’s low (they want it to be on the high side….around 3.5 nmol/l) then ask your clinic about Testogel and get on it. It’s cheap as chips. It will take around 3 months to get into your system fully.

Good luck!

You can get dhea from iHerb, American website but delivers fine to the uk. They sell a micronised one - I think the brand is amazing nutrition.

i took dhea from Biovea and Ubiquinol from Holland and Barret. I was taking 3 pills per day each.

Also my fertility clinic doctor recommended Melatonin pills but I never took it.

Good luck 🤞

thank you for your reply! I was just wondering, did you buy the DHEA in bulk to save on delivery cost or did you buy a bottle each month you were taking it? I’m a bit worried about the customs side of things as I know they ship from the US x

yes I bought them bulk for 3-4 months. Although I paid money upfront, it saves the postage costs if sent with multiple deliveries. I sent you PM as well.

Hello. I was a little concerned about the class C drug status of DHEA in the UK and whether I might get into trouble should my package be picked up at customs when shipping from the US so I sourced my DHEA via my clinic directly. It is more pricey for sure but wanted to minimise my anxiety where possible. My consultant recommended 300mg CoQ10 which I ordered from a UK manufacturer on Amazon. During my second stims cycle my consultant added Melatonin during the stims phase and I also injected a growth hormone during stimulation to help with egg quality. We did two rounds of embryo banking (f:44/m:58) and now have two euploid Day 5 embryos, we hope to transfer one next month. x
